Job description
The Engineering Plant Manager (EPM) is responsible for the smooth running of the metal processing plant and to manage production and processing staff.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
- To maintain the continued operation of the main processing plant
- To ensure plant checks are initiated at 7.00am (checks to Fluid Levels/Spot Checks and the Reporting of any faults.)
- Organise and plan preventive maintenance schedules
- Manage safe plant isolation procedures during maintenance and repair
- Manage a small team of operational staff and to ensure staffing levels are kept at an adequate level for continued operation of the main processing plant
- Organisation of Loading/Unloading lorries
- Liaising with transport department on vehicle requirements and production requirements
- Supervising loading and unloading operations
- Organising the separation and grading of metals/waste into different areas for collection
- Ensuring the removal of Non-Ferrous metal grades from waste material being processed by instructing and training operational staff
- Reporting of any dangerous/hazardous waste (eg: Gas Bottle/Fridges/Oil) to Main Office
- Organising the guidance of Customer/Lorries to designated tipping areas
- Ensuring piles/stacks of metal does not exceed maximum height and are kept safe
- Ensuring all working areas are free from debris and work areas are kept safe
- Responsible for reporting fires if noticed and helping tackle these if you have been trained, and if it is safe to do so
- Maintaining regular maintenance procedures
- In the event of a machine breakdown, this must be reported to the office immediately so that appropriate action can be taken
- Ensuring PPE is worn at all times by all operational staff
Other Duties
- To ensure that all Health and Safety standards are maintained and that you show due diligence at all times. You are expected to manage and monitor working practices of operational staff to ensure safe working practices are maintained at all times
- To comply with all company policies and procedures e.g. health & safety, training & development, quality, disciplinary & grievance and sickness & absence etc.
- To provide emergency cover for colleagues which may include certain duties not normally associated with this position
- To be aware of companies aims, organisational values and behaviours and their impact on this post and to maintain a suitable level of professionalism commensurate with this position
- To be aware of the quality standards and performance measures and ensure that they are observed
- To carry out all duties and responsibilities with reasonable care for the health and safety of you and any other persons who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work, and to co-operate fully in health and safety matters
- To carry out any other reasonable duties as requested to ensure the smooth running of the business
