Job description
Our Newport Secondary and SEN Branch at Teaching Personnel are working in partnership with a number of secondary and special needs schools in the centre of Newport to recruit SEN Teaching Assistants ahead of the Summer term. You will be tasked with providing 1:1 Support for children who have a wide range of Additional Learning Needs to access learning in a way that best suits them.
There are both full time and part time positions available. We are also offering flexible shift work for anyone that requires flexible working - we have a lot of university students that currently benefit from this type of work with us!
Start date: ASAP
Hours: 08:30 - 15:30 (Full time, part time, or flexible shift work contracts available)
Salary: £83 - £90 a day / £12.82 - £13.84 hourly pay
The Successful 1:1 Learning Support Assistant will:
- Support individual students in and out of the classroom.
- Help to implement individual learning plans.
- Support the class teacher in classroom activities.
- Liaise with parents, carers and other professionals involved in the child's care.
- Promote the independence, inclusion and equality of children with a additional learning needs within a classroom setting.
- Establish productive working relationships with pupils, acting as a role model whilst motivating pupils, promoting and reinforcing self esteem
Experience required:
The right person for this job will be calm, supportive, and nurturing, but with the ability to be firm but fair where needed. You will be someone that pupils can look to for support and advice, as well as someone that they look up to and respect.
If you haven't worked in schools previously but have a background in support work or have experience with challenging behaviour this could be an ideal opportunity for you. If you are worried that you haven't had specific experience working with children who have Additional Learning Needs, please do not worry, as we are interested in speaking with people from all walks of life. If no previous classroom experience, you must be able to demonstrate transferable skills.
The successful applicant will need an enhanced DBS on the update service, EWC registration and be able to provide 2 references. Teaching Personnel will assist you with these during the onboarding process.

All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available at a later date.
