Sandwich, Kent | United Kingdom
Job description
At ZeroAvia, we’re clean sky thinkers. For the world to achieve truly clean, guilt-free flight, we need a scalable solution; hydrogen-electric powertrains. As a leader in zero-emission aviation and a UK Jet Zero Council member, we’re designing and commercialising hydrogen-powered solutions that will positively impact the future of aviation, global connectivity, and the world.
Engineering designs our next-generation hydrogen electric engines. Working across Hydrogen, Propulsion and Integration divisions, they solve technical problems and help decarbonize aviation by finding solutions for electric propulsion, hydrogen storage, fuel cell technology, power distribution, thermal management and more.
As the PGS Test Lead, you will be responsible for leading the testing and validation of our powertrain solution. You will collaborate with a team of engineers, technicians, and external partners to ensure the successful development and implementation of our fuel cells.
Responsibilities
- To technical own the development of fuel cell component, sub-system or systems within the power generate system from low technology readiness levels to production ready hardware.
- To understand the challenges and limitations of Fuel Cell Systems within application environments, and to use these experiences to formulate product development roadmaps describing an evolution improvement within iterations of hardware.
- The ability to distil high level FCS requirements into component specifications, and to technically engage with sub-contractors and suppliers to produce compliance evidence.
- Development statements of work and acceptance criteria of externally sub-contracted design and production work packages.
- Creating, executing, and documenting verification and validation plans from base level components right the way to complete systems.
- To be capable of specifying or developing fuel cell test rigs and equipment.
- Prepare test stations, instrumentation, or data acquisition systems for use in specific tests of fuel cell components or systems.
- To support lab-based FCS benchmarking and characterisation.
- To support the feedback of FCS benchmarking and investigative testing into updates within the FCS control strategies.
- Recommend or implement changes to fuel cell system designs.
- Write technical reports or proposals related to engineering projects.
Requirements
- A strong analytical approach to data analysis and problem solving.
- A demonstrable track record of autonomous work planning and aggressive proactive problem ownership.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Aeronautical, Mechanical, or related engineering field;
- Must have at least five years of experience within Low Temperature Proton Exchange Membrane (LTPEM) or similar fuel cell technology, performing design engineering functions in aeronautical, automotive, or similar industries.
- Good practical skills (Hands-on work in assembling, evaluating, and testing electro-mechanical subsystems).
- Able to work within a growing multi-discipline team, that is globally distributed.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills at technical and management levels.
- Possess the passion and energy to work in a dynamic early-stage environment.
- Areas of experience or interest should include:
- Control approaches for fluidic delivery and management
- Solving complex air supply challenges (eg high flow high pressure air compression system design)
- Experience in High Voltage / High Power Electrical Systems (not essential)
- Experience in Pneumatics and / or Hydraulics (not essential)
- Knowledge of communications protocols (CANbus, Serial (RS232 and/or RS485), and Ethernet (not essential)
