The Joseph Rowntree School is a leading secondary school based in state of the art facilities located in New Earswick, near York, with a large catchment area and a wealth of strong relationships and networks in the wider community.

We are looking for a Director of Sixth Form with strong leadership skills, who can offer the vision and tenacity to help lead a happy and thriving secondary school and to continue to build on our considerable strengths as we look to an exciting future. This is a fantastic opportunity for either an existing Assistant Headteacher or successful Middle Leader looking to take the next step on the career ladder. The successful candidate will be responsible for the leadership of our Sixth Form and will also play a full role in our Senior Leadership Team. The appointment of our new Director of Sixth Form is of crucial importance in our school improvement work.

The successful candidate will:

• Have excellent people skills with a strong understanding of interpersonal relationships and strategies for promoting individual and team development and sustaining effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels.
• Have the ability to positively influence the behaviours of different groups of students and individuals
• Be a strategic thinker
• Be adaptable, good humoured and accountable
• Be an excellent classroom teacher
• Have a clear understanding of the impact of change and different leadership styles on individuals and organisations
• Have a demonstrable level of experience within secondary education
• Have a robust level of experience in holding individuals, teams and the whole school to account for student learning outcomes
• Be wholly student centred in their approach, with a calm, unflappable nature
• Possess a practical understanding of how to analyse and use the full range of evidence, including performance data and external evaluations, to support, monitor, evaluate and improve aspects of the school, including challenging areas of under performance
