About The Role: Our Home & Leisure design team is growing and we have an amazing opportunity for a Design Assistant to join the team! Working alongside the Design Manager, Designer & Buying teams you’ll be an integral part of the design process across a range of product areas. You’ll also support the wider design team by assisting in the designing and development of a range of products that meets all company requested requirements whilst maintaining the Home & Leisure handwriting. Accountabilities: Commercial awareness of our customer profile, current trends and competitors. Product comprehensive, completed and finalised design packs for use by the Buying team and suppliers as directed by the Designer/Design Manager. Continually develop knowledge of all aspects of product design. Support the Designers & Design Manager to deliver commercial growth and key buying/sourcing strategies. Creation of print and pattern for the design department as directed by Designer / Design manager. Supporting and assisting the Designer and the Designer Manager in the design and development of cohesive, trend appropriate ranges across the trading divisions. Inputting into Design Team Trend by collating and presenting research and inspiration per season, and by regularly creating and maintaining moodboards and colour palettes for the department. Showing an awareness of the varying market and trends by regular competitive and inspirational store visits and travelling to trade shows in the UK & abroad. Producing comprehensive and finalised technical design packs, in line with the critical path, to send to suppliers to ensure effective sampling. Working closely with the Technical team on product specifications to ensure the correct design, quality & understanding of manufacturing processes. Assisting the Designer in preparing for supplier and design meetings, inputting into any preparations and able to present ideas back to the wider team. Responsible for all relevant administrative duties for the department. Effectively communicate to the buying team alongside the Designer, an awareness of inspiration and emerging trends and colours. Demonstrating a clear understanding of the principles of production, merchandising and supply chain. Regularly collaborating with the design team to maintain admin across the design department Awareness of the critical path and its impacts. Assisting Design Manager and PR team with Look Book samples / shoot. Assist Designer in giving clear design direction and identifying core lines, key statements and key colours to help drive sales and achieve the given departments financial targets Show awareness & basic understanding of the H&L departments weekly, seasonal & yearly trade figures. About You: Role-specific knowledge, skills & experience: Knowledge: Lifestyle & Home Trend research and analysis Product Knowledge – have a clear understanding of Homeware and Seasonal products and demonstrate a passion for product design and quality. Retail market knowledge – Have a clear understanding of the design, buying, quality and merchandising processes. Willingness to learn and able to take on new information, adapt style and learn new ways of working. Skills: Commercial awareness and attention to detail A broad based understanding of all aspects of the design process CAD & spec sheet development Ability to gain feedback from colleagues and customers Good communication and presentation skills Ability to work in a flexible, versatile team and ability to collaborate with the wider design & buying teams day to day Takes responsibility for own learning, keeping skills and knowledge up to date and sharing knowledge with others through mentoring Relationship building with key stakeholders within the Home & Leisure buying team as well as Marketing and other key stakeholders Experience: Product or print design qualification Previous Homeware / Seasonal / gift design experience preferred.
