As a Principal Environment Artist at Lighthouse Games, working closely with the Art Director, you will spearhead the creation of immersive game worlds that captivate and enchant our players with the highest quality visuals, setting the stage for unforgettable experiences. You possess a meticulous eye for detail and composition, ensuring environments feel authentic and compelling while taking immense pride in the collective achievements of your team. Your primary focus lies in nurturing and elevating the environment artist team, cultivating a culture that fosters individual excellence.
Key Duties Include
- Collaborate with the Art Director and Game Designers to conceptualize and craft a cohesive and immersive game world meeting both creative and technical requirements
- Develop 3D models and textures for a diverse range of environmental assets, including buildings, terrain, vegetation, and props to the highest level of craft
- Support and develop the level of craft for mid-level and Senior Environment Artists
- Uphold visual consistency and ensure adherence to established art styles and technical guidelines across game environments
- Liaise with other departments such as level design and lighting to optimize the integration of environment assets into the game world
- Drive the development and implementation of innovative techniques and tools to enhance efficiency and quality in the environment art pipeline
- Provide mentorship and guidance to nurture the growth of artists within the team
- Stay updated with industry trends, sharing insights and knowledge with the team to advance environment art practices
- Maintain transparent communication within the team to ensure alignment with project goals and timelines
- Collaborate closely with Technical Artists and the Engineering team to optimize environment assets for performance
- Engage in critiques and reviews to maintain an exceptional standard of quality in environment art assets, aligning them with game design requirements
Requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Shipped several games as a Senior Environment Artist
- Exceptional collaboration skills, thriving in team-oriented environments
- An outstanding portfolio showcasing recent examples of exceptional Environment Art
- Strong understanding of shape, form, and composition
- Proficiency in 3D industry-standard tools like Maya, 3DSMax, Blender
- Proficiency in surfacing tools such as Photoshop and Substance Painter
- Proven ability in producing optimized 3D assets for games
Desirable
- Experience with Unreal Engine.
- Experience with large open-world games of triple A quality.
- Expertise in hard surface and foliage asset modelling.
- Experience mentoring other Artists.
