Solution Lead

Remote with occasional travel to Serco offices

Full Time, Permanent 

£50,000 - £65,000 per annum (depending on experience) + benefits

Here at Serco, we are seeking a Solution Lead who will be responsible for designing effective and innovative end-to-end solutions for Serco’s bids and transformation projects.  Our solutions combine a range of existing and new capabilities incorporating user experience, people, processes, technology, assets, and supply chain partners. 

You will ensure that the delivery solutions are cohesive, aligned to the needs of the customer, operationally informed, commercially viable, and offer lean and effective processes. You will work closely with a Bid Director, Commercial Lead and the Growth Director. You will be responsible for the day-to-day development of the end-to-end delivery solution for defined bids and (from time to time) transformation projects; and working closely with subject matter experts and the finance & commercial team to inform and cost the solution, and with bid writers to present the solution effectively in winning bids.

As part of this you’ll:

Customer

•   Be pro-active with customer engagement to manage stakeholders, test understanding, refine requirements and develop workable solutions

•  Fully understand the client business, functional and non-functional requirements

•  Design and develop high-quality, tailored and costed delivery solutions in collaboration with subject matter experts and operations colleagues to achieve the service users’ needs and the customer’s objectives

•   Understand what represents best of breed from a service provider in the given sector. 

Operational Excellence

•   Owns, manages and leads the solution (including any work stream leads) to develop an end-to-end solution which is in line with the agreed strategy; meets the customers business objectives/requirements and achieves the required affordability target

•   Develop the overall vision and high-level design for the project / programme and ensure this is effectively communicated to the various stakeholders

•   Understand what the programme will deliver from a business and benefits perspective and to redevelop areas where this is not congruent with the evolving solution

•   Design solutions which offer lean and effective processes

•   Work closely with technical leads to ensure development of appropriate systems/ICT for the solution

•   Ensure a full understanding of the pricing approach, working with the finance and commercial leads

•   Re-utilise existing Serco capabilities wherever appropriate

•  Review current services, synergies with other Serco contracts, identify improvements, research trends, adopt good practice and assessing costs, etc.

•   Understand and support the Serco business lifecycle and bid process

•   Ensures that the proposed solutions are aligned with Serco policies, standards and guidelines and have achieved delivery and technical assurance prior to submission to the customer

•  To create bid narrative and act as final editor on all written material that forms part of the solution response

•    Ensure that both functional and non-functional requirements are robust, documented and understood clearly by both the customer and the key roles within the bid/programme team

•  Identify and review the specific risks associated with the solution

•   Contribute to the risk and issues register to ensure these are recorded with mitigations and cost impacts

•   Be responsible for the governance of the complete solution covering all BPO service and technology aspects

People and Culture

•   Stakeholder management within the client procurement team and wider client stakeholders

•   Manage the client’s expectations and understand where Serco can deliver their requirements using standard offerings where possible.  Where our standard offering is not appropriate oversee the design of bespoke solution elements to meet the client’s requirements.

•    Stakeholder management within the bid team and wider Serco stakeholders

•    Promote co-operation and facilitate co-ordination of all solution workstreams within the bid to achieve a successful integrated solution which is underwritten and understood by all stakeholders.

•   Build and shape local partnership agreements/subcontractors/partners.

What you’ll need to do the role:

•    You should have degree and/or higher-level qualification (essential)

•    Experience in one or more of our sectors (preferred)

•    ITIL Foundation is desirable

•   TOGAF/Zachman is desirable

•   Strong interpersonal skills

•    Ability to explain complex technical and operational concepts in simple business language

•   Delivering programmes to time, cost and quality

•   Thrive in high pressure, complex, changing environments with insufficient information

•   Influential in the organisation with an adaptable and flexible approach to team engagement

•   Able to deal with ambiguity, and find solutions to problems that meet the customers’ needs

•    Ability to self-manage and prioritise tasks and meet deadlines and an ability to communicate at all levels of the business and customer.
