Job description

CLINICAL The post holder will Provide a visible presence and engage in direct clinical care and practice as appropriate within their scope of competence. Assess, diagnose, plan, implement, and evaluate treatment/interventions and care for patients that present to the breast surgery service and particularly the Northamptonshire mastalgia pathway. Make independent clinical decisions and initiate invasive and non-invasive treatments, care, treatments and technological interventions as appropriate under supervision and with support of senior colleagues. Be able to provide, analyse and receive highly complex and sensitive information Complete NMR radiology training as per KGH Trust SOP to be able to plan, order, interpret and act upon the results of imaging investigations. Provide evidence-based healthcare which contributes to the diagnosis, care and treatment of patients. If qualified, act as an independent non-medical prescriber, working within agreed protocols. Assist in the provision of Surgical Outpatient clinics and care of patients within the breast pathway. Work collaboratively with all members of the multidisciplinary team to provide best clinical care, emotional and psychological support and education to our breast patients and their carers. RESEARCH Act as role model of standards for behaviour and professions, through commitment to the integration of policies and procedures within the role and workplace. Work with innovation and flexibility to adapt to a fast-changing specialty and play an integral role in the operational/strategic development of the service. Through the process of clinical audit, evaluate the care and management of patients involved in the breast service and specifically the Mastalgia pathway, presenting outcomes to the team. Assist in leading new practice and service design solutions to better meet the needs of the patients and service. EDUCATION Facilitate evidence-based practice and promote and undertake research and clinical audit within the service. Create a working environment conducive to facilitating learning and provision of education to meet the needs of the staff. Teaching and providing mentorship and support to other staff including practitioners, theatre team members, ward staff, clinic nurses, clinical nurse specialists, medical students and medical staff within the Trust to promote quality of care Promote the use of reflective practice to enhance the development of self and others Actively promote education of patients, relatives and carers in all aspects of care e.g. health promotion, diet, wound care, pain control and mobilisation and treatment plans. Ensure own on-going education needs are identified as part of a Personal Development Plan and Appraisal process with the Line Manager. Guaranteeing that personal development is maintained to ensure effective development of the Service Attend and participate in local, regional, national and/or international study days and conferences as required and promote and disseminate findings to appropriate members of the multidisciplinary team Maintain knowledge of developments and current practices relevant to the clinical speciality and use this knowledge to carry out clinical practice founded on research and evidence MANAGERIAL Develop and maintain effective communication and professional relationships with all members of the multi-disciplinary team Become a local and national role model regarding the role of the Breast Surgical Nurse Practitioner Actively take a role in risk management and clinical incident reporting Support the lead ANP in all aspects of management Adhere to the NMC Code of Professional Practice
