Indirect Tax Manager

Our client, a FTSE Organisation and a leading name within the Construction and Property Industry are seeking to recruit an Interim Indirect Tax Manager to join the Group Tax Team for a 6-month contract.

The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the VAT and SDLT compliance process and providing support to colleagues through successful business partnering and training. This is a technical role that requires strong UK tax background, with 3-5-year indirect tax experience gained either from practice or in-house.

Job Responsibilities

Co-ordinate, review and submit monthly VAT returns for all group VAT registrations, including JVs.

Deal with tax authority queries, ensuring VAT liabilities/recoverables are settled or collected on a timely basis.

Calculate partial exemption and capital goods scheme annual adjustments, liaising with finance colleagues to ensure correctly accounted for.

Manage and monitor tax risk associated with all VAT filing positions, communicating these with Director of Tax.

Maintain internal indirect tax guides and tax communications with business.

Provide support to the business finance teams to ensure SDLT compliance, ensuring filing positions for complex land transactions are clearly understood.

Deal with tax authority enquiries and correspondence.

Accountable for monthly CIS returns reporting and payments to HMRC.

Partner with colleagues across trading divisions and central functions to support business decisions, including JVs, land acquisitions, bulk sales and other significant transactions.

Research and respond to ad-hoc tax queries from the business.

Preparation and delivery of tax training to business units.

Manage and support key relationships with business advisors and tax authorities.

Advise on the impact of new or emerging changes in tax legislation and tax authority guidance, ensure compliance with changes and that impact is correctly reflected in tax forecasts.

Actively identify and implement operational tax efficiencies and savings.

Monitor existing indirect tax accounting arrangements as part of compliance with SAO and CCO obligations.

Support review of tax risks, controls, policies and procedures.

Job Requirements

Strong UK tax background, with 3-5 year indirect tax experience gained either from practice or in-house.

Excellent UK tax technical and accounting knowledge.

Previous land and construction VAT knowledge is desirable. Previous SDLT experience is desirable but not essential (there is ample opportunity to develop this requisite in role).

Qualified Accountant (ACA, CIMA, ACCA), or relevant Tax qualification (ATT, CTA).

Good commercial awareness.

Pro-active hands-on approach, this driven individual has the ability to manage and take ownership of multiple work streams and deadlines.

Good attention to detail and analytical approach.

Excellent communication skills (verbal and written), with the ability to explain complex tax matters in a clear and concise manner.

Experience of communicating directly with tax advisors and tax authorities.

Strong Excel skills.

Enthusiasm for bringing new ideas and processes to the Group Tax Team.
