Technical Services Manager

Are you an ambitious Technical manager looking for your next challenge in one of the UK’s leading research intensive Universities? As Technical Services Manager you will be responsible for providing effective leadership, development and direction across school level technical teams within the faculty and you will report directly to the Faculty Operations Director (FOD).  

A key part of the role will involve working closely with the FOD, School leadership teams and School technical leads to consider the appropriate structure and governance for the technical services across the faculty, taking into account best practice from elsewhere in the university. You will contribute to the delivery of the Faculty strategy, leading and feeding into Task and Finish groups associated with technical and operational delivery.   

You will actively work with School leadership teams across the faculty to understand the technical requirement for each School and work with them and the FOD on succession planning. You will work in collaboration with the Faculty Health and Safety Managers to ensure any modification to University Health and Safety policy and procedures are implemented effectively within the Technical Service.  

The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in a scientific field or equivalent experience and have significant technical management experience in a similar environment. You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills necessary to build effective working relationships and proven experience of leading / managing a team of staff. Demonstrating a genuine commitment towards continual service improvement, you will possess strong organisational, analytical and problem-solving skills and have the ability to work pro-actively, using a high level of initiative.
