Job description
The Student Nurse Navigator is a 12-month staff position reporting to the Director of Practical Nursing. In addition to the qualifications and responsibilities of the School of Health Sciences, the student navigator is responsible for assisting students by providing academic assistance, counseling, and referral to community agency contacts for pre-health sciences and School of Health Sciences students. This is a grant-funded position through the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 and ends June 30, 2024.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Two years of nursing experience
- Computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite)
- Excellent communication skills
- Must be able to work in a highly confidential environment
- Must be organized and detailed oriented
Duties and Responsibilities:
The duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to managing student navigation of the Senatobia, Oxford, Desoto, and Ashland Campuses.
- Assists students in identifying barriers that may impede success in the program.
- Assist students in identifying individual learning styles to enhance testing and study skills.
- Identifies community agencies and other resources available for students.
- Refers students to appropriate agencies or resources such as financial assistance, mental health, or tutoring when needed.
- Works with faculty members to identify and track students who may be at risk due to academic and/or personal barriers.
- Promotes student success by identifying scholarships, monies, and other resources.
- Identifies, plans, and implements educational offerings regarding student success strategies for faculty and students, including improving testing skills, study skills, critical thinking activities, and communication exercises.
- Maintains up-to-date expertise in best practices to promote student success.
- Keeps a record of students tracked and assisted and implements measures to correct and achieve outcomes.
- Reports outcomes to faculty, Director, and Dean during each semester.
- Assists with planning/coordinating events to help promote student job success.
This position is funded through the America Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (ARPA) Coronavirus State and Local Fiscal Recovery Funds Mississippi House Bill 3113 as enacted by the legislature of the State of Mississippi during the 2023 regular session Coronavirus State Fiscal Recovery Funds.
