Job Title: AI Engineer (Generative AI Focus)
Location: Fully Remote
Contract Duration: 3 Months
Rate: £500/day
Job Description:
We are seeking a skilled and experienced AI Engineer with a focus on Generative AI to join a team at a local authority in Kingston upon Thames. This is a fully remote position on a 3-month contract basis, with the possibility of extension.
Responsibilities:
- Identify use cases for Generative AI within the local authority context.
- Collect and process data for input into Generative AI models.
- Integrate council data into pre-trained models using techniques such as Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and fine-tuning.
- Work with vector databases and embeddings.
- Deploy, serve, and monitor models using MLOps / LLMOps practices.
- Build web applications and user interfaces to facilitate interaction with AI models.
- Research existing solutions in the market.
- Develop guidance and standards for deploying AI applications.
- Coach and upskill colleagues and stakeholders.
Requirements:
- 5+ years of professional experience in software engineering, data engineering, or machine learning engineering.
- Proficiency in Python.
- Knowledge of AI and machine learning, with a focus on Generative AI and Large Language Models (LLMs).
- Experience with integrating data into pre-trained Generative AI models using techniques such as RAG and fine-tuning, utilising libraries such as Langchain, LlamaIndex, Hugging Face, or cloud-based tools like AWS Bedrock or Google Vertex AI.
- Understanding of Natural Language Processing (NLP) techniques such as text embeddings and how different data representations impact model performance.
- Experience working with vector databases (e.g., Pinecone).
- Experience building and deploying web applications using cloud technologies.
- Familiarity with modern software engineering best practices such as test-driven development, CI/CD, and containerisation.
- Knowledge of MLOps / LLMOps, including model deployment, serving, and monitoring.
- Experience working in an Agile environment.
- Ability to lead work autonomously and handle ambiguity.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to adapt to different roles as needed.
