At Rotating Machines Rugby (RMR), we design and build some of the most technically advanced electrical rotating machinery in the world. We specialise in manufacturing large electrical rotating machinery: Motors and Generators, across a wide variety of industrial applications. Our motors are powering some of the most advance warships in the world, whilst our generators are decarbonising industry for a more sustainable future. The CAD Design Team is a key part of the RMR Engineering Department and consists of a team of CAD Designers, responsible for the 3D design, Bills of Materials (BOMs) and delivery of manufacturing drawings as well as support through the project build. We design some of the worlds most advanced machinery, and drive operational excellence through our high focus on safety, quality, delivery and cost.
Reporting to the Senior Manufacturing Readiness & CAD Design Leader, the Lead CAD Engineer is a key part of leading the execution of project designs, coordinating the work of other designers within the team and pulling together the machines overall definition to ensure a right first-time execution that is both able to start and finish on time. Working cross functionally to ensure everything is in place and ready prior to manufacture, providing technical leadership and active support of the project builds during execution.
What you will be doing as part of our team…
- Leading the CAD Design work on assigned projects, taking ownership of the overall machine design to ensure it fully meets the design specifications.
- Control/update of the master 3D model to ensure detailed parts interface correctly.
- Taking responsibility for the checking of drawings produced by the assigned CAD Designers, assuming overall responsibility for the Quality of the drawings and machines CAD design- ensuring interfaces are correct, BOM quantities are complete and correct.
- Coordinating the CAD Designers assigned to the project to ensure that planned drawings and BOM items are released on time and updating associated tracking/planners so as not to affect departments on time delivery.
- Monitoring the CAD Design hours being spent on the project, providing estimates to complete and aiming to keep project under allocated budget.
- Driving cost competitiveness by continually looking for ways to make things easier to assemble or cheaper to manufacture- a kaizen mindset to drive continuous improvement.
- Deputising if required for the Senior Manufacturing Readiness & CAD Design Leader to maintain operational efficiency, transparency and rigour.
Working cross functionally as part of a global GE team to ensure our customers (both external and internal) are satisfied with their experience of dealing with us.
