Job description
We are seeking to appoint an ambitious and dynamic colleague to join our high-achieving Maths department.
The Bishop’s Stortford College Mathematics Department is an inspirational department of 9 passionate and forward-thinking specialist teachers, enjoying brand new, state-of-the-art accommodation. Mathematics is the most popular subject at A Level, with approximately 80 students each year opting for the single A Level (average of 13 students per set). Further Mathematics is also a popular option for 27 of our students. The vast majority of our students take the Higher Tier IGCSE with Edexcel. The average set size is 24. Over the past four years, an average of 100% of our GCSE students achieved a Grade 4 or higher and our Grade 9 figure last year was 34%, with 76% at 7+. Those students who progress onto A Level currently follow the OCR (MEI) board for both A Levels, but from September we are moving to Edexcel. Over the past three years, we have averaged 61% A*/A and 80% A*-B for A Level Mathematics. In Further Mathematics, the figures are 63% and 94% respectively.
The Maths Department is a creative, hard-working and supportive team, who are always willing to take on new ideas and share expertise. If you have a passion for Mathematics and relish working with highly motivated, keen and interested students, then we would love to hear from you. We are well equipped to provide the support needed for a newly qualified teacher and would welcome applications from candidates in the early years of their career.
The College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. A copy of the College’s Child Protection Policy is available on the website.
Bishop's Stortford College is an equal opportunities employer and is committed to Safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children; all employees are subject to a number of pre-employment and safeguarding checks, including an enhanced DBS check. References and an online search will be undertaken prior to interview. To this end, robust Safeguarding processes and procedures are in place to support families, pupils, staff, and volunteers. In compliance with the sharing of information guidance/best practice, any concerns are passed to designated teachers, trained in Safeguarding.
