Main Duties and Responsibilities Communication Act as a source of expertise and guidance to the Head of Radiotherapy with respect to developing new opportunities and projects. Design and deliver programmes of work liaising with internal and external stakeholders. Develop effective and collaborative working relationships with colleagues within the Trust and other organisations, supporting and sharing best practice. Escalating concerns, risks and issues through the appropriate routes and following through on actions as required. Foster effective and supportive relationships with the Head of Radiotherapy Clinical teams and external stakeholders to enable delivery of strategy and objectives in relation to the entire Radiotherapy Education portfolio Develop strong and supportive working relationships with Divisional clinical and operational teams, and corporate teams Promote, negotiate and facilitate change and, at times, work with and empower multi-disciplinary teams within the service to deliver agreed outcomes Be able to present clear and comprehensive updates, reports and information in a variety of methods Participate in performance review and delivery meetings with the Head of Radiotherapy Take responsibility for personal and professional development and practice, recognising own limitations and the need for continuing education. Ensure that there are robust systems and processes for the development, tracking and reporting of projects. Assist with the implementation of large scale improvement/change projects Able to understand, analyse and communicate complex information and facilitate others understanding of it. Act as a champion for continuous quality improvement, encouraging a progressive approach to the use of project management and improvement methodologies. To be able to manage competing and changing priorities to ensure programme outcomes are achieved. The postholder will be expected to participate in regular meetings around education objectives and performance review to ensure delivery against the service targets. A framework of activity or action logs will be used in order update progress against individual achievements and that of the team (if applicable). Service Delivery and Improvement Support the Head of Radiotherapy for the delivery of the agreed service education and developments plan, within and external to the organisation. The post holder will be required to maintain advanced theoretical and practical knowledge, evidenced by keeping up to date with best practice locally and nationally and contribute to the implementation of evidence based clinical practice. The post holder will act as an authorised signatory for financial payments regarding the training and development expenses. The post holder will contribute to the drawing up of service training budgets. They will manage the equitable access of training funds to staff and liaise with the trust to gain access to external training resources. Attend mandatory training updates as required, this will include statutory skills for clinical staff and all radiotherapy-specific skills required to perform the role of a Service Manager Undertake training as necessary in line with the development of the post and as agreed with the line manager as part of the personal development process. Achieve and demonstrate agreed standards of personal and professional development within agreed timescales. Identify own learning needs and jointly plan training requirements with your line manager Participate in the Trusts appraisal process to discuss how your role will help deliver the best possible care to our patients and help to deliver any changes in service. The clinical skills framework for the radiotherapy department will include the full range of skills which are expected of the post holder and will be updated periodically. Contribute to the clinical governance agenda within radiotherapy to specifically work within IR(ME)R 2017 and the Ionising Radiation Regulations (2017) and Radiotherapy Local Rules for radiation, University Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust Undertake a number of complex activities or programmes, which require the formulation and adjustment of plans. The post holder may demonstrate this, for example, by project managing new pathways or co-ordinating staff performance management carefully over a period of time. They will liaise with HEIs for pre and post registration training and support the development of educational programmes in line with the department strategies The postholder will participate in the induction and ongoing training of students, assistant practitioners, radiographers and other non-radiographic staff. The post holder will be responsible for support and guidance to other manager. The postholder will manage the sections procedures, protocol and work instructions among other documents relevant to their service and will ensure that they will be updated periodically. Develop the Project Brief with the Client and undertake Project Execution Plans. Support the Head of Radiotherapy to ensure clinical practice is legal, evidence based and has good governance processes. Works on own initiative within Trust policies. Expected to work independently & autonomously with awareness of boundaries. Responsible for own professional actions and have sufficient autonomy for the delivery of the role Interpret national and local guidance and to develop local policies to reflect these standards To create and develop collaborative opportunities with the Research & Innovation team. Take responsibility for personal and professional development and practice, recognising own limitations and the need for continuing education. Ensure that there are robust systems and processes for the reporting, development, and tracking of training and development of the radiotherapy workforce. Ensure compliance with the established quality governance. Analyse, interpret and communicate sensitive and highly complex information es and provide appropriate advice that fits with the strategic aims and ensure achievement of performance targets. To be able to manage competing and changing priorities to ensure programme outcomes are achieved. The postholder will be expected to participate in regular (e.g. monthly or as appropriate) meetings with objectives and performance review meetings in order to ensure comprehensive and delivery against the patient improvements and quality of care and regulatory targets. A framework of activity or action logs will be used in order update progress against individual achievements and that of the team (if applicable).
