Job description
To provide strategic pastoral leadership to further strengthen student development to establish the highest standard student welfare and attitudes towards learning. The post holder will ensure that the climate for learning within the school supports the values and ethos of The Hammond.
As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Head of Student Support is responsible for the implementation, monitoring and appropriate staffing of a pastoral policy and procedures.
The Head of Student Support also directly manages the Head of Boarding.
The Head of Student Support’s ultimate aim is to ensure all students are fully supported throughout their time at The Hammond, and to work alongside parents/ carers, teaching and support staff, and outside agencies to create an environment conducive to learning and growth.
Main Responsibilities
• To act in the capacity of Designated Safeguarding Lead.
• The creation of high expectations amongst students and parents in terms of maximising positive behaviour choices and attendance.
• Strategic lead for school, college and higher education pastoral and welfare. • Strategic lead for student accommodation (post-16 years of age).
• To work closely with the Principal to ensure all documentation and evidence is accurate and submitted on time for inspections.
• To create and develop the Student Support Development Plan and to contribute to the organisational strategic plan.
• Liaison with teaching staff and form tutors to create mechanisms of support for students.
• Training of staff to ensure effective communication at Parents’ Evenings and other school events.
• Strategic lead for behaviour monitoring systems.
• Strategic lead for child protection monitoring systems.
• To present weekly reports to the Senior Leadership Team.
• To continuously update safeguarding knowledge and procedures.
• Liaising with the Principal regarding temporary and permanent exclusions, parent meetings, writing and compiling of exclusion administration, liaison with external agencies where appropriate.
• To always exhibit exceptional leadership qualities with high expectations of what can be achieved by staff and students.
• To lead the Head of Boarding to ensure safeguarding and student welfare procedures are effective and strong.
• To liaise with leaders of marketing to ensure the pastoral curriculum is accurately promoted through digital and traditional marketing, as well as through school marketing events.
