Job description
Philford Design Engineers are looking for a Mechanical design engineer apprentice to complete a Level 6 product design & development engineer apprenticeship. Reporting to the Drawing Office Manager, the Apprentice Mechanical Design Engineer will be a degree apprenticeship run through the AMRC Training Centre.
As an apprentice you will start your tenure at Philford Design Engineers with the training provider at their facilities with release days agreed by the provider to visit our facilities, undertaking the course content offered by the provider.
Upon completion of this period you will commence full time working (with day release as agreed by the provider) with ourselves working in the fabrication, fitting and machining areas which will allow you to gain an understanding of how our products are manufactured.
Once you have gained sufficient experience in the manufacturing process (circa 12 months) you will then spend a short amount of time with the other office based departments, before transitioning through to the Drawing Office. The time spent with the various departments will give a good understanding of the workings of our business before joining the design team, which will complement your learning at the AMRC Training Centre.
You will be involved with all aspects of design, working alongside experienced designers taking customer enquiries from concepts through to production. You will be working on bespoke material handling equipment generally for UK based customers predominantly the vibrant mining, quarrying and power generation sectors. Part of the role will involve site visits to some of the most interesting sites across the UK.
As a small family run business we are always open to implementing positive change whether this be the latest design software, material flow analysis software or custom designed software to improve our internal processes.
After time you will be capable of working on your own to a specification and producing the quality of work required to meet outlined objectives set by the company. Much of our success is owed to our professional relationship with our customers, we strongly encourage direct contact between our design staff and the end users to ensure they understand and meet the customer requirements.
