Job description

The Secretary of State for Education is seeking a new Chair of Ofqual, the independent qualifications and assessments regulator in England.

Qualifications open doors and shape lives, as well as having a strong influence on what is taught in schools and colleges. Ofqual plays a vital role in ensuring that qualifications and assessments are valid, valued and delivered safely and efficiently, with outcomes that are accurate, fair and command public confidence. With the current interim Chair due to stand down by the end of this year, we are looking for an exceptional individual to take on this exciting and high-profile national role.

You will need:

A proven track record of operating successfully in a senior leadership role, ideally in the education or training sector, including delivery of strategic objectives Highly effective communication skills, with the ability to command the respect, and inspire the confidence, of ministers, parliament, awarding organisations, the education sector, the public and Ofqual itself Strong political acumen and advanced understanding of the government’s programme of educational reform and the role of Ofqual in implementing reform This is a significant challenge, but a fascinating and rewarding one.
