Job description

We are looking for a new Head of Marketplaces, Wholesale and Partnerships to join our successful, family owned-and-run retail business, Pavers. This role will be based at our head office in York but can include an element of home working, flexible hours, and/or working from our Leeds City Centre satellite offices if desired.

Marketplaces, Wholesale and Partnerships play an important and growing role in the sales mix of Pavers and Jones Bootmaker and this is a strategically important area for the future growth and profitability of our business. Whilst we have a small number of existing partnerships there is significant opportunity for an entrepreneurial individual to work with their team and the wider business to grow this function. This role will own and lead all our partnership and marketplace relationships, and is tasked with growing the P&L across the UK and internationally by expanding our customer base.

Success in this role requires a granular understanding of the complex systems, platforms, and processes that facilitate the business, but also, just as importantly, requires the ability to develop strong interpersonal relationships. A friendly, humble individual with personality and ambition is likely to be best suited to the role.  

Pavers has been trading for over 50 years and is a highly profitable and growing family business with a strong balance sheet and a turnover over £200m. We also own the Jones Bootmaker, Herring Shoes, and Padders / Van Dal footwear businesses, remain acquisitive, and employ over 1800 people. In 2023 we were recognised as one of the Top 5 employers in Retail (Best Companies), are Carbon Neutral, have donated more than £2m to charity in the past 5 years, and are imminently undertaking a significant expansion and modernisation of our York head office.

Key responsibilities:

• Develop and implement a comprehensive 3rd party channel strategy aligned with the overall business objectives.
• Identify and build strategic partnerships with key online marketplaces, wholesale buyers, and potential franchisees.
• Build, lead, and inspire a high-performing team of partnership and marketplace colleagues.
• Negotiate and manage partnership agreements, ensuring mutually beneficial outcomes.
• Oversee the onboarding and ongoing management of 3rd party partners, providing support and guidance to ensure success.
• Monitor and optimise performance across all 3rd party channels, driving sales and profitability.
• Manage the budget and resources allocated to 3rd party channels.
• Develop strong relationships with internal stakeholders across various departments.
• Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) related to 3rd party channels.

Ideal candidate:

• Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar role, managing third-party retailers and marketplaces.
• Proven track record of scaling sales and profitability through strategic partnerships.
• Strong understanding of the UK footwear retail landscape and online marketplaces, or previous experience in retail an advantage
• Strong negotiation and contract management skills.
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
• Knowledge of the footwear or retail industry is a plus.
