Job description
Working knowledge of a broad range of trauma and orthopaedics, neurological andmedical conditions common in the elderly. Competent IT skills. An understanding of Clinical Governance and its implications for services, includingexperience of quality issues and participation in research and audit. Some experience working with a biopsychosocial approach to assessmentand treatment. Clinical workload involves daily/weekly/monthly domiciliary visits with telephone support from the physiotherapy lead if required, and lone working during the out of hours service. The use of highly developed therapeutic handling skills, manual techniques and facilitation of movement. Carry out assessments and treatments of people with severe physical, cognitive, behavioural and sensory impairment and poor mobility with frequent intense physical effort on a daily basis e.g. handling of heavy body parts. This may include several short periods of static postures kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, bending and stretching on a daily basis. Ability to impart information concerning diagnosis and poor prognosis of physical recovery to patients and their relatives. This may involve informing patients that they may be unable to achieve their previous functional level, or challenging beliefs about perceived level of disability. Requirement for prolonged periods of intense concentration (to analyse complex information, e.g. during assessments of up to 90 minutes length, taking in-depth patient history, movement analysis and teaching clinical skills).
