Our apprenticeship programme is a great opportunity to study towards a college qualification, while putting everything you have learnt into action through on-the-job training.
As an Apprentice Plumbing Maintenance Technician, you will be working as part of a team of engineers ensuring safety and comfort of visitors and staff, by carrying out planned and emergency break down maintenance to; mechanical plant, ventilating, heating, water supply, waste (effluent discharge), drainage and equipment across the buildings.
Our Building Services Facilities Management team provides mechanical and electrical maintenance services to hospitals, schools, MOD sites and other commercial buildings across the UK to make sure they are safe.
What you’ll learn to do: - Work alongside a Mechanical Engineer and learn to complete general plumbing tasks such as fixing sinks, taps, toilets, showers and baths
- You will learn to maintain and service heating, water, waste, drainage, ventilation and air conditioning systems
- You may be required on occasion, to work alongside an Electrical Engineer and learn tasks such as carrying out small electrical installation works, generator testing, rectifying power loss, emergency light testing, finding lighting faults and changing plug sockets and switches
- Learn to understand and complete building maintenance-related documentation
- Understand the value of excellent customer service
What qualification will you be studying for? Attend college 1 day per week to study service and maintenance techniques associated with industrial and commercial mechanical and electrical systems such as heating and ventilation, air and water systems. You will work with our experienced technicians for the remaining 4 days of the week

Working environment: This role will be based in Northwood.
Who you are: - Have a genuine interest in Plumbing and practical hands-on engineering
- You should hold GSCEs including Maths and English grade 4 or above for us to successfully enrol you on the apprenticeship
- Curious and enthusiastic to learn
- You must have lived in the UK in the last 3 years and have the right to work in the UK to be eligible for an apprenticeship. We are not able to proceed with applications that require visa sponsorship.
- We are not able to proceed with applications from candidates that have already achieved a degree in any discipline.
- Due to the nature of this project, you will need to be over 18 years old and be a UK resident, you will need certain security clearance to enable you to work on site.
What we offer: - Through day release to college, Skanska will provide support and funding to help you achieve a Level 3 qualification in Building Services Engineering service and maintenance

- Starting salary: £16,800 to £23,860 depending on the apprenticeship level and your age.
