Avalanche Studios Group and its creative self-publishing division, Expansive Worlds is looking for an Animator to bring amazing and authentic characters and creatures into our worlds. This is a full-time position at our Liverpool location, and we offer flexible work arrangements where you can spend part of your time remotely. The Position At Expansive Worlds, we are looking for an animator to breathe life into creatures and characters through animations and behaviors. Ideally, you have experience with character and creature animation in a realistic animation style. You will also have a focus on quality control for the animations created, and help influence the work in the group. Every single detail matters to us - not only in our games, but also in how we work. We work in cross-functional teams with a high focus on collaboration, adaptability and continuous improvement. Your close collaborators would include character artists, technical artists, programmers and designers. A high level of initiative is needed, and it is rewarded with autonomy and the invitation to actively influence how features are developed and what the end result will look like.
- Experience in development of gameplay animation content and working with the blueprinting of animation systems is mandatory
- Deep understanding of animation fundamentals in different styles (stylized, hyper-realistic, cartoony, etc.)
- This position is focused on a realistic animation style
- Experience working on gameplay animations for both large and small creatures and characters
- Strong observational skills coupled with a strong understanding of weight distribution and pacing/timing
- Significant experience in production of key-framed character animation for both humans and creatures
- Accomplished knowledge of current animation techniques and 3rd party animation Software (Maya, most importantly, but other packages like MotionBuilder are useful to know)
- Experience working with and creatively manipulating motion capture
- Good communication skills and experience working in a team environment
- An interest for pushing animation in video-games to new levels of quality
- If you have shipped at least one game title, it would be useful
Who are you - A highly skilled Animator with 3+ years of experience working as an Animator in the games industry
- You have a high level of initiative, and you combine research with significant experience to solve complex intersecting aspects of the game
- Displays genuine care for team members, exhibiting sincerity and the ability to give and receive feedback effectively with people from different backgrounds
- Communicates development progress effectively to team members as to the state of development; raises concerns when applicable
- A resourceful problem solver, capable of working independently and also collaboratively by involving stakeholders where needed to reach the goal
