Applicants should note that Internal Audit in HMRC will join the Government Internal Audit Agency (GIAA) which is a cross government provision of internal audit services. This will happen in July 2024 and staff will be transferred to the Agency.

Job description

HMRC is committed to becoming a ‘data driven organisation’ and undergoing the biggest digital transformation in government with some of the biggest and most exciting digital projects in Europe. Internal Audit is integral to HMRC's operation, recently winning the Institute of Internal Auditors award for added value to an organisation.

It works with every area of the Department providing assurance on governance, risk management and controls.

As well as undertaking risk-based and compliance type audit work, we are actively brought in early to help the business design controls into new products and processes.

Your office location is contractual so if you are successful, there is an expectation that you will attend that office location as required by the business. You need to consider how you will meet this requirement before you apply and discuss any concerns with the vacancy holder before accepting any role.

There is a possibility that you may need to obtain SC Security clearance in future to carry out some audits.

Qualifications A qualified Certified Internal Auditor (CIA) or a qualified Accountant (CCAB/CIMA) with a completed logbook, who has relevant post qualification experience (criteria listed below). For CIA candidates you must be studying for CMIIA or willing to work towards the CMIIA qualification Benefits
