Your dream role:
We have an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Engineer to join the team and:
- To assist in designing, procuring, and producing products compliant with applicable vehicle legislation by providing them with guidance and interpretation.
- To demonstrate to Government authorities that the vehicles we intend to register comply with the applicable vehicle legislative requirements by a combination of tests, inspections and paperwork information following legislation that typically cover safety and the environment.
- To liaise with appropriate Departments internally and external suppliers and/or test sites to obtain information in support of compliance documentation.
- To assist in the maintenance of Conformity of Production records for given platforms/territories and where necessary plan or conduct inspections, or schedule testing to validate ongoing compliance.
- This role will develop into a Product Engineer – Homologation position once skill levels and performance targets have been achieved.
Duties and responsibilities in detail:
- Homologation support for defined platforms/territories, including control of the relevant certification and responsibility for maintenance, conformity of production, and update in‐line with customer or internal change requirements.
- Review specified legislative requirements applicable to Alexander Dennis products for existing and proposed territories. Including keeping abreast of legislative change advised through departmental subscriptions and Government notices, and providing impact analysis, guidance, and interpretation internally on a regular basis.
- Process the necessary documentation, as instructed, to comply with type approval and certification requirements for territories (worldwide) for Alexander Dennis products.
- Liaise with appropriate suppliers, test sites and government authorities to obtain approvals/reports and other data, with onsite support during certification process where applicable and agreed with Line Manager.
- Liaise with Engineering and use appropriate company systems to obtain data required for documentation.
- Support Conformity of Production plans for applicable products/certification. Conduct inspections, audits, training or initiate internal/external testing as applicable to ensure legislative COP requirements continue to be met.
- Study appropriate texts and visit product shows, when permitted, to learn of alternative legislative interpretations and homologation strategies.
What you will bring:
- Degree level in an Engineering discipline
- Ability to use Microsoft 365 applications for reporting, compiling data and communication.
- Basic understanding of automotive engineering and related terminology, or aptitude to learn quickly via in‐person, remote and video teaching methods.
- Able to work under own initiative.
- Able to assimilate new and complex information.
- Able to present information in report and chart format in a clear manner.
- Able to communicate interpretations of text to others at a number of different levels (both written and verbal).
- Logical and analytical reading and thinking, plus a good attention to detail.
- Basic Engineering drawing skills – preferable abilities in company CAD system.
- Valid UK driving license essential.
- Valid Passport preferred.
- Able to travel, as some Homologation activity requires overnight stays both in the UK and aboard, with possible extended travel or secondment if desirable.
- PSV driving licence desirable.
