Job description

Teacher of DT and Visual Arts

Full Time, Permanent, from September 2024

MPS/UPS (£30,000 to £46,524)

We are seeking to appoint a dynamic, highly skilled, passionate and enthusiastic teacher of Design and Technology, where teaching and learning is at the heart of our collaborative practice. The successful candidate will possess excellent organisational and teaching skills with the ability to inspire and motivate students.

The DTVA faculty offers a broad curriculum and within the Design & Technology department, students are taught a combination of Product Design, Food Technology and Graphic Design at Key Stage 3. Product Design and Hospitality and Catering are popular courses at Key Stage 4. We have built links with local restaurants so students can gain an insight into what it is like to work in the catering industry, gaining first hand experience of working in a kitchen serving paying customers. Product Design at Key Stage 5 is an exciting course which enhances the learning gained during year 11. The department itself is well resourced including a heat treatment room for metalwork, two laser cutters and both wood and metalwork lathes. We have computer suites with CAD software and a 3D printer. Also within the faculty, we offer Art, Photography and Graphic Design and also have a Hair and Beauty salon onsite where students offer services to the public. Extra curricular clubs are held regularly within the different disciplines, offering opportunities to extend and develop routes for career development.

Heanor Gate Spencer Academy is an ‘ Outstanding’ secondary school and sixth form (Ofsted, June 2023) which is oversubscribed in Year 7 for the second successive year. We are extremely proud of our inspection report which is a testament to 7 years of school improvement. It states that ”teachers are subject experts”, “pupils are ambitious about their future”, “classrooms are calm places, where pupils focus on their learning” and “leaders are relentless in their desire to provide the absolute best education for all pupils and to serve the local community”.
