Job description

Tes is supporting the appointment of a Director of Learning Development (SENCo) to join a School based in Lincolnshire.

They are now looking to appoint a Director of Learning Development (SENCo) to lead their Learning Development department. This is an essential role that enables all students to gain support throughout their academic journey. 

The successful candidate will be encouraged to bring their knowledge and expertise to develop forward-thinking and effective support for pupils with SEND. The School firmly believes that all pupils should experience the full range of subjects that are offered, and that withdrawal from aspects of the curriculum should be the last resort not a first response. 

The Director of Learning Development will lead the Learning Development department and work with the Academic Core Team in identifying, monitoring and organising support for the pupils with SEND at the School. The post holder will work with colleagues to implement the School’s aims, objectives and ethos, establishing processes through which these will be achieved for pupils with SEND.

Position: Director of Learning Development (SENCo) 👩‍🏫👨‍🏫

Key Responsibilities:

• To work with the Senior Leadership Team and the school governors to ensure the school is compliant with the SEND Code of Practice (January 2015), JCQ regulations, and the Equality Act 2010 by providing effective coordination and leadership of the school’s SEND provision.
• Monitor the quality of SEND support by establishing effective systems to identify and meet the needs of pupils, whilst ensuring that the systems are coordinated, evaluated and regularly reviewed. 
• Oversee and monitor the quality of EHCPs and other support plans such as Individual Learning Plans (ILPs).
• Monitor the progress of pupils and inform colleagues and parents, as appropriate, regarding any adjustments to provision that may be needed.
• Collect and interpret specialist assessment data gathered on pupils and use to inform practice.

Requirements:

• Hold a good honours degree.
• Possess a recognised teaching qualification (e.g. QTS, PGCE).
• Hold a recognised SENCo Qualification or equivalent.
• Have a proven track record on ensuring that all pupils are able to learn and achieve to the best of their ability.
• Proven experience in the ability to lead strategically to impact on school improvements.
• Have achieved a Post graduate qualification Level 7 in assessment for examination access arrangements or have a willingness to train, is desirable but not essential.

The school has its own salary scale and remuneration will depend on experience.
