Job description
Transport Operations - Ensure the accurate and timely delivery of customers' orders to ensure the Positive Response.
- The efficient and effective day to day running of the transport department, minimise the cost to the business by fully utilising all resources within the team and vehicles.
- Monitor and report KPI's, lead the team to meet these.
- Monitor the daily workload of the transport department and ensure work is processed accurately and within the deadlines agreed with production and customer services.
- Work collaboratively with the Customer Service and Production Team and ensure communication is maintained.
- Lead on continuous improvement and deliver required improvements for the transport department, including recruitment and staffing process and system development.
- Promote best practice.
- Report transport data as required and utilise to support effective service delivery.
- Manage the transport department budget. Create and deliver a yearly transport delivery plan and support the business in the development and implementation of peak operational plans.
- Be the main point of contact for the Transport Department/Fleet Insurance
- Responsible for the leasing and procurement of the transport fleet and company vehicles.
- Investigate accidents and disciplinary concerns, make suitable recommendations and take appropriate action.
Compliance - Keep up to date with all relevant transport and driver related legislation and implement any changes as and when required. (Tachograph, VOSA etc)
- Ensure the fleet of commercial vehicles are maintained in line with applicable standards and legislation.
- Monitor and manage driver compliance with the WTD and ensure all shifts are recorded in a timely and accurate manner
- Regularly review, monitor and manage compliance with standard operating procedures and company policies (i.e. grievance, disciplinary etc.
People Management - Ensure all drivers and the transport team are fully trained to perform their duties.
- Ensure the transport department is always resourced to maintain service delivery particularly during core and peak times.
- Ensure that the flow of communication through the transport department is clear, timely and consistent.
- Support the development of the transport team and drivers, implementing development and succession plans where appropriate.
- Lead any recruitment initiatives to meet the needs of the business.
- Promote and maintain a positive, helpful and efficient culturewithin the transport department to deliver a positive customer experience.
- Demonstrate active Leadership qualities, i.e. motivate & inspire, lead by example, understand and overcome barriers to change
- Manage the performance of the transport department including, training, KPI's, appraisals, reporting, and formal processes
Systems - Manage the effective use of the ERP system for delivery planning of customer orders.
- Help drive through the integration of a new Paragon Transport Planning system in conjunction with the current ERP system.
Health and Safety - You have a responsibility under the Health and Safety at Work Order 1974 to ensure the health, safety and well-being of all staff under your control.
- You must ensure that all staff are adequately trained for all the tasks you assign.
- Update and maintain all transport departments Risk Assessments.
- You must also ensure that refresher training is provided as required by legislation.
