Job description
We are currently seeking a dedicated and skilled Prison Mental Health Nurse to join our client's mental health team in Stafford. As a Prison Mental Health Nurse, you will play a critical role in providing comprehensive mental health care to prisoners within the prison facility. Your expertise in mental health nursing and commitment to rehabilitative care will contribute to promoting positive mental health outcomes for the prison population.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive mental health assessments of prisoners, considering their individual needs and risks.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans, collaborating with the multidisciplinary team and considering the specific challenges of the prison environment.
- Administer prescribed medications and treatments, monitoring their effectiveness and any potential side effects.
- Observe and document prisoners' behaviors and mental states, promptly reporting any changes or concerns to the mental health team.
- Provide crisis intervention and de-escalation support to prisoners experiencing acute mental health episodes.
- Facilitate therapeutic groups and activities aimed at promoting mental health, well-being, and rehabilitation.
- Offer counseling and support to prisoners with mental health challenges, fostering a compassionate and non-judgmental environment.
- Collaborate with prison staff and external agencies to ensure coordinated and holistic care for prisoners.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records, adhering to data protection and confidentiality policies.
- Comply with all relevant policies, procedures, and guidelines related to mental health care in the prison setting.
- Participate in training and continuous professional development to enhance knowledge and skills in mental health nursing and correctional healthcare.
Requirements:
- Registered Mental Health Nurse with valid registration and a minimum of 2-3 years of experience in mental health nursing.
- Prison Clearance is preffered
- Additional qualification or training in forensic mental health or correctional healthcare (desirable).
- Sound knowledge of mental health conditions and evidence-based interventions.
- Ability to work effectively in a challenging and secure environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with prisoners and colleagues.
- Strong assessment and decision-making abilities, particularly in complex mental health situations.
- Flexibility to adapt to the dynamic nature of the prison environment and changing patient needs.
- Willingness to undergo prison clearance and security checks.
- Commitment to promoting positive mental health and rehabilitation within the prison.
