Operations Managers / Communications Manager

University of Southampton

Location

Southampton | United Kingdom

Job description

A number of exciting opportunities to support our faculty and academic schools in their operations and enhance our communications are available in the Faculty Operating Service in the Faculty of Social Sciences.

We are appointing roles to lead the operations teams in three of our academic schools (0.5 FTE per school) and a role to focus on our communication to stakeholders about our activity especially in research and enterprise (0.5 FTE). These roles could be appointed combined as 1.0 FTE (full-time) positions or as individual 0.5 FTE positions to support our commitment to equality of opportunity. The roles will be based at the Highfield or Boldrewood campuses. We have an inclusive hybrid working arrangement, which includes the opportunity to work from home in addition to on campus.

The Faculty Operating Service works with Faculty and School Senior Leadership Teams to support areas of work which provide essential services to our core business of education, research, and enterprise. Our students and staff have a wide range of backgrounds, within the UK and internationally, creating a multicultural and diverse community. Successful applicants will be motivated, enthusiastic, and proactive team players who are culturally sensitive and are able to work effectively in a flexible and responsive environment.

The school operational roles will ensure that our activity, processes and practices best support our academic colleagues by delivering excellent professional services provision. The communications role will enhance how we talk about what we are achieving as a faculty especially in our research, through our website, social media and similar mediums.

Working closely with Heads of School and other key stakeholders in both the academic and professional service workstreams, you will play a key role in the realisation of the School’s and Faculty’s ambitions. You will work collaboratively in the implementation of strategic priorities while also leading on many of the day-to-day operations of our large, diverse and busy academic schools. You will lead motivated and committed teams, oversee day-to-day operations, and lead significant projects across school and faculty.

You will have excellent analytical, organisational and communication skills with strong attention to detail. Your skills of leadership, influence and persuasion will allow you to build effective and constructive relationships, drive change and harness new ways of working to benefit all our activities and processes. Confidence working in a fast-paced and complex environment will be central to achieving the objectives of the role.

You will work closely with the Faculty Senior Operations Manager, Associate Director of Faculty Operations and Operations Managers to deliver a ‘one team’, shared service approach which is focused on supporting schools to deliver on strategic ambitions at both school and faculty level.

For further information regarding these roles, please contact Associate Director of Faculty Operations, Thom Bull at [email protected]

*Upon appointment, job titles will be Operation Manager or Operation Manager - Communications.
