The Maths Department comprises the Head of Mathematics, a second-in-department, KS5 coordinator and ten other full and part-time Mathematics specialists.
The Department is based in our purpose built, specialist STEM building which contains a dedicated staff room for Maths teachers, Head of Department’s office and bright, spacious well-equipped Maths classrooms with interactive whiteboards.
Our pupils have been entered for Edexcel GCSE at the higher tier since summer 2021 (having previously taken IGCSE qualifications). GCSE results are excellent, with over 90% achieving grades 7 and above in 2023.
Students are taught in sets which are banded by mathematical ability. The Key Stage 3 curriculum prepares pupils for the rigours of the GCSE course whilst offering many opportunities for enrichment. Students in the higher and middle bands are prepared for GCSE Further Maths within the KS4 schemes of work and may opt to enter the examination. In addition, many students enter UKMT challenges, team competitions. Trips are offered to Maths in Action lectures, and visiting speakers offer lectures to students in KS3-5.
A Level Mathematics is regularly one of the most popular subject options in the Sixth Form. We follow the Edexcel course. We also offer Further Mathematics to both AS and A Level to increasing numbers of dedicated students, (there are currently two classes in Years 12 and 13.
The Department has an enviable track record of successfully preparing students to apply for Mathematics and related courses at the most prestigious universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.
