Various locations including Bristol, Gloucester, and Glasgow. Hybrid, with flexible working options to be discussed. Contract types include generation collective agreement and new build collective agreement.

The Opportunity…

We are looking to fill a number of vacancies for Instrumentation & Control / Software / Control Systems Engineers, within different departments across EDF’s nuclear business.

Your engineering work will directly support EDF’s nuclear new build projects at Hinkley Points C and Sizewell C, and/or EDF’s existing nuclear fleet operations.

What you’ll be doing…

Your exact responsibilities will be dependent upon your expertise and which role you are offered but may include some of the following:

• Undertaking or overseeing activities associated with safety and plant control systems throughout all phases of their development lifecycle (including specification of requirements, design, manufacture, validation & testing, commissioning and operations).
• Performing change impact analysis and supporting the qualification of software-based equipment in accordance with company procedures, standards and guidelines.
• Leading, contributing, or supervising testing and/or software modification activities on safety and plant control systems during plant the commissioning, start-up and/or operations phases.
• Developing knowledge of functional safety and how it is applied to safety and plant control systems.
• As the Intelligent Customer, undertaking technical reviews and client acceptance of engineering and safety documentation.
• Participating in technical meetings to resolve technical issues.
• Providing advice on safety and plant control systems to other teams and organisations.
• Writing and reviewing documentation such as technical specifications, engineering reports and safety reports.
• Specifying, Developing and/or testing inhouse high integrity software.
• Undertaking software assurance activities for outsourced nuclear safety related software e.g. defining software assurance programmes, auditing suppliers, carrying out static code analysis etc.

Who you are…

Your background may include some of the following:

• Degree (or equivalent) in relevant engineering, computer science, mathematics or science discipline, chartered or working towards chartership status with a relevant professional body is advantageous.
• Specification, design, implementation, verification & validation, and/or substantiation of high integrity / safety-critical control systems.
• Knowledge of standards applicable to the development of high integrity control systems (such as BS EN 61513 and BS EN 61508).
• Experience with SCADA systems, Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs).
• Knowledge of analogue and digital safety and plant control systems in high integrity applications.
• Knowledge of software development lifecycle (including software engineering principles, software testing & analysis methods and tools, software failure modes).
• Application of systems engineering and how it is applied to design development.
• Experience of commissioning analogue and digital safety and plant control systems.
• Development of safety cases and application of ALARP (As Low As Reasonably Practicable).

We are not expecting you to have a background in all the above. We are looking for engineers who are either generalists across the majority, or specialists in one or more areas identified above – so if you feel you have some great experience, we would love to hear from you!

Pay, benefits and culture…

We can offer a competitive salary of £40,069 - £84,892,  and you’ll be appointed based on the parameters outlined in the Nuclear Generation Company Agreement (for NG Company Agreements) as well as your existing salary, competence, experience, and qualifications (for NNB contracts)
