Position Summary
Reporting to the Director, Experiential Education, the Manager, Work Integrated Learning (WIL) and Experiential Learning (EL) is responsible for the strategic direction, effective management, coordination, delivery, evaluation, and refinement of all WIL and EL services within Seneca Works.
The incumbent works closely and collaboratively with Faculties and the Manager, Operations to ensure smooth delivery of services offered by Seneca Works. The Manager leads the WIL and EL team intending to create innovative programming to meet the demands of industry and students’ expectations. They also manage budgets, supporting proactive responsiveness to student needs alongside the Director and other managers.
This program area is designed to support student success with a particular focus on developing career-related skills and facilitating opportunities for students and employers to connect to assist in preparing students to enter the workforce. Work-integrated learning and experiential learning programming is considered to be one of the many services offered by Seneca Works
This role is currently hybrid and will be based mainly at the Newnham Campus. The incumbent might be required to work at other main campuses as needed.
Responsibilities
Leadership
- Oversees the development, delivery, and assessment of WIL and EL programs and services.
- Ensures that WIL and EL services are delivered by appropriately trained staff with a broad understanding of the academic and administrative functions at Seneca, as well as the educational and career environment in general.
- Provides leadership and direction to the WIL and EL Co-ordinators to:
o Develop and deliver services that will ensure that Seneca students and graduates have maximum exposure to employers.
o Ensures all requirements related to WIL and EL are completed.
o Keeps on the leading edge of the delivery of WIL and EL services in a post-secondary institution.
o Ensures the provision of accurate and timely information and services to diverse stakeholders including current students, graduates, faculty, staff, and alumni.
o Assists with the continued integration and usage of WIL and EL systems to effectively serve students and employers as well as provide statistical reporting.
Staff Management and Budgeting
- Maintains a high level of staff performance through effective recruitment, selection, development, and coaching of full-time, part-time, and contract staff in designated areas of responsibility.
- Ensures smooth and efficient service delivery to all internal and external stakeholders, including students, staff, employers, post-secondary institutions, and other external community members.
- In consultation with the Director, of Experiential Education, develops, directs, monitors, and evaluates the budget activity for designated responsibility centres. Ensures sound financial planning and budgetary control systems are exercised.
- Manages and ensures the effective administration of Seneca procedures, processes, and forms related to functions such as attendance, payroll, purchasing, financial forms, etc.
- Appropriately utilizes the Collective Agreements, Seneca policies (i.e. Student Rights & Responsibilities, Academic Policy, Discrimination, and Harassment Policy, etc), and relevant provincial legislation (i.e. Occupational Health and Safety Act).
Strategic Planning and Program Development
- Participates with the Dean, Directors, and other Managers in developing, implementing, and evaluating operational plans for the department that are consistent with Seneca’s Strategic and Business Plans.
- Designs and directs programs and services to support student’s WIL, EL, and career success that best meet the needs of a diverse population situated on multiple campuses.
- Monitors and evaluates existing programs, develops action plans, and takes creative approaches to program development and implementation.
- Participates in special projects identified from time to time, including Seneca Works and Seneca-wide business processes and initiatives.

Education
- Minimum completed 3-year diploma/ degree in education, business, administration, social sciences, or related field is required.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of progressive experience preferably within a post-secondary educational environment in the direct delivery of career or work-integrated and experiential learning programming.
- Experience communicating to various levels – faculty, Chairs, Deans, executives, etc. and managing a broad set of stakeholders.
- Leadership/management work experience in multiple functions including hiring, performance management, and budgeting within a large, diverse organization.
- Experience working with post-secondary students and industry partners and managing staff within a unionized institution.
- Experience delivering content and hosting events both virtually and on-campus and applying the principles of adult learning to content development.
- Experience with data collection and analytics.
Skills
- Strong knowledge of WIL and experiential learning theory and best practices WIL and EL are essential.
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to work with a variety of external and internal stakeholders.
- Excellent communication skills, facilitation, presentation, and writing skills.
- Demonstrated knowledge of and skill in software applications (Office 365- SharePoint, OneDrive, MS Teams, word processing), websites and applications, and utilization of databases.
- Strong organizational skills including the ability to set priorities, meet deadlines, and manage events.
- Tact and diplomacy, and the ability to remain calm in difficult situations.
- Sound judgment as well as critical thinking, and problem-solving are essential.
