Job description
As our Cloud Platform Engineering Manager you'll be responsible for architecting and managing the AWS-based cloud platform at Net Natives. This role requires a hands-on technical leader with a deep understanding of cloud technologies, excellent leadership skills, and the ability to drive innovation. This is a true DevOps role where you will be leading a dynamic team of software developers who build and support our key platform Akero.
Reporting into the CTPO you will be responsible for ensuring our platform is secure, scalable, monitored, has robust DR and the team has access to support to the right cloud tools to continue our journey.
You will be responsible for managing the engineers that oversee the development of the product including full stack and front end developers.
Day to day you will be responsible for…
- Infrastructure Accountability:
- Be accountable for our Cloud infrastructure to ensure that our product remains online, is secure, and backed up.
- Design, implement, and maintain automated infrastructure provisioning and configuration management on AWS using Cloudformation.
- Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD):
- Implement and maintain CI/CD pipelines to automate software deployments, ensuring a streamlined and efficient release process.
- Monitoring and Alerting:
- Set up and manage monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and address issues in real-time, using tools like NewRelic, CloudWatch, or similar solutions.
- Security:
- Review and maintain platforms to ensure they are running on the latest versions of software to maintain their security.
- Review the overall security footprint of the AWS environment, and report to the CTPO areas of concern and take remedial action to ensure our environments remain secure.
- Scalability:
- Evaluate and optimise the scalability of our infrastructure to handle increasing traffic and demand, especially during peak enrollment periods.
- Backup and Disaster Recovery:
- Implement and maintain robust backup and disaster recovery plans to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with software developers to streamline the deployment process, ensuring that code changes are released smoothly and efficiently.
- Documentation:
- Maintain detailed documentation of infrastructure configurations, processes, and best practices for team reference.
- Technical Support:
- Provide technical support and troubleshooting assistance to resolve infrastructure-related issues promptly.
- Cost Optimization
- Own the cost optimization of our cloud infrastructure and use the report mechanisms so suggest reservations, saving plans or other instruments to ensure we’re optimising our costs.
- Review server types and usage to ensure that we are operating on the right infrastructure for the load usage.
- Line Management
- Act as the line manager for the senior developers to ensure we have a consistent cloud architecture, and they are supported in their growth and utilisation of cloud technologies.
- Stay Current:
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to recommend improvements and enhancements to our infrastructure.

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
- At least two years of commercial experience having accountability for an AWS production environment.
- Proven experience of using AWS services such as ECR, ECS, ElasticBeanstalk.
- Proven experience as a DevOps Engineer, Site Reliability Engineer(SRE), Infrastructure Engineer, or similar role.
- Proven ability to architect solutions, taking DevOps concepts and AWS services and combining to achieve the end goal that we want to achieve as a team.
- Strong proficiency in automation and scripting using tools like CloudFormation, Ansible, Terraform, or similar technologies.
- Able to write in JavaScript, understand and debug node applications.
- Knowledge of CI/CD tools like Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or CircleCI.
- Proven experience of AWS networking (VPC’s), load balancers and other tools to provide a secure solution
- Knowledge of the AWS Well Architected Framework
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Security awareness and experience implementing security best practices.
- Experience with Docker
Desirable
- Experience with Google Cloud.
- Experience with MongoDB and BigQuery.
