Rugby is one of the fastest growing towns in the country and is set to grow by 30% by 2035. We are looking for an experienced and qualified planner who will help support the delivery of a high quality, effective, efficient and customer focussed service. The role will involve managing a case load of major, complex and contentious applications.

Located in the county of Warwickshire, near the cities of Coventry and Leicester, with direct rail links to London and Birmingham and within “the golden triangle” of the strategic road network, Rugby’s accessibility is one of the key attributes. As a pro-growth authority there is plenty of opportunities to get involved with major housing, retail and employment developments in the pipeline, and a town centre regeneration programme getting started, it’s an exciting time to live and work in Rugby.

The successful applicant will provide professional advice on a range of planning matters to customers, Members of the Council and other stakeholders as necessary. They will be expected to support and guide planning officers within the team, negotiate with applicants and agents to achieve high quality outcomes, to prepare appeals and provide expert evidence at Hearings and Inquiries in respect of planning matters as necessary. This would also include being actively involved in our current and future allocated housing and employment sites.

You will need to have a relevant degree, professional qualification or appropriate experience, a sound knowledge of current planning legislation, relevant experience in development management as well as possess excellent communication and advisory skills. A driving licence and access to a car for business use is essential.

Our offices are located in Rugby Town Centre and there is also the opportunity to work from home for some of the time during the working week. .
