Claims Handler , to handle claims against the Council

This candidate must be able to work remotely, have access to their own broadband, all equipment will be provided.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

  1. To support the Risk and Insurance Manager and Senior Claims Officer in providing a comprehensive claims handling service to the community, outside bodies and officers of the Council dealing with all claims made against the Council’s Public Liability and Employers Liability policies, including repudiating or settling claims in accordance with current guidelines directly with the claimant or their representative.
  2. Work with the Head of Claims to ensure maximum flexibility to meet changes in litigation practice demands and priorities in order to deliver a quality front line service.
  3. Implement the prompt administration and investigate claims internally to enable legal liability to be decided, and claims to be repudiated or settled in accordance with legal protocols ensuring performance and functions carried out are achieved to the highest standard.
  4. In the absence of the Senior Claims Officer, and when delegated to do so by the Risk and Insurance Manager, oversee some aspects of claims administration ensuring tasks are completed to a high standard.
  5. Adhere to protocols that detect and deter fraudulent & exaggerated claims. Promote effective financial management and the pursuit of value for money.

Qualifications & Experience

Certificate in insurance from the Chartered Insurance Institute or equivalent qualification in a related field (e.g. Law).

Experience of claims management in the public sector.

IT literate and keyboard skills with experience of using, Word, Excel and claims
database software packages.

Good organisational skills and be capable of achieving agreed deadlines and targets, whilst staying motivated and focused.

Good verbal and written communication skills, able to demonstrate tact and diplomacy.

Able to write, clear, concise reports.

Ability to bring creative solutions to problems.

Able to establish positive working relationships, and work closely with Council officers, external agencies and individuals.

Committed to own learning and development.

Able to share good practice and experience and learn from others.

Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision.

Ability to work on own initiative.

Ability to work within a team

Ability to analyse problems and produce effective solutions.
