Job description
To work alongside the PAKT Programme Coordinator, part-time staff and volunteers in facilitating children’s after school clubs and contributing to the provision of family and parent/carer activities. The PAKT programme operates from community facilities in Glenfield and Woodburn as well as the main Carrickfergus YMCA building at Irish Quarter West..
Responsibilities
- Assist the PAKT staff team to plan, prepare, organise and deliver a wide variety of activities for children aged 5-11.
- Supervise activities and ensure a safe, sociable environment for children and families to attend.
- Support the social and emotional development of programme participants through interaction and engagement.
- Assist in the development of relationships with the wider community and external agencies.
- Challenge oppressive behaviour in young people.
- Provide support to parents and carers and encourage active participation in family and parent activities.
- Assist with administrative duties.
- Implement the YMCA's Child Protection policy and work with children and their parents/carers to safeguard their welfare and the welfare of others.
- Ensure high standards are maintained in relation to health and safety and hygiene.
- Undertake compulsory induction training and participate in appropriate training to develop new skills (e.g. accredited training in youth work/food hygiene/first aid).

Essential Skills
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to develop and maintain appropriate relationships with young people.
- Planning and organisational skills.
- Computer literate.
- Ability to work as part of a team.
- Resilience and ability to deal with the pressures of working with young people.
- Commitment to working within an equal opportunity framework.
- Ability to work in agreement with the aims and objectives of Carrickfergus YMCA.
Desirable Skills
- Previous paid or voluntary experience of working with children or young people would be desirable but is not essential.
- This post will involve 'regulated activity' under the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (NI) Order 2007 therefore the post holder will be subject to an ACCESS NI check.

Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer.
Wage: 16/17yrs £5.28, 18/20yrs £7.49, 21/22yrs £10.18, 23/24yrs £10.42 per hour
