Job description
The Department of Immunology at Addenbrookes Hospital Cambridge seek an experienced, HCPC registered specialist Healthcare Scientist.
This is a full time, permanent position in our busy and progressive ISO 15189 accredited Immunology laboratory. We provide an extensive specialist repertoire alongside a routine autoimmune serology, allergy and myeloma service to local, regional and national centres.
Working with our experienced scientific team of Biomedical and Clinical Scientists, Associate Practitioners, trainees and support staff, you will be expected to join the evening/Saturday rota when competent.
The department is continually improving and has several service development projects currently underway, with all staff encouraged and supported to contribute to their success.
This exciting opportunity is open to HCPC registered Healthcare Scientists, with experience in an NHS diagnostic Immunology Laboratory. To be appointed you will hold the IBMS Specialist Diploma in Clinical Immunology, or have evidence of significant progress towards its completion.

Process routine and specialist investigations in department
Work independently and lead on specialist area as directed
Where required, lead and supervise a section of the laboratory.
Provide specialist service e.g. training, problem solving for specialist requirement
Supervise and train less experienced staff
Acts as mentor for more junior scientific and support staff
Provide specialist advice to clinicians as to appropriateness of tests and timescales
To work flexibly in reflection of service needs. This will include participation in Saturday and evening rota.
The work of the service brings staff into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues and hazardous chemicals. This may include blood, urine, CSF and respiratory secretions
Maintain and promote professional image of the CUH Trust.

HCPC Registration as a Biomedical Scientist or Clinical Scientist
Biomedical Science Degree
IBMS Specialist Diploma in Immunology
Working towards IBMS Specialist Diploma in Immunology
Substantial practical experience of working in an NHS Diagnostic laboratory
Recent practical experience of routine analytical procedures in Immunology
Recent practical experience of specialist analytical procedures in Immunology
Experience of staff supervision and training
Previous experience of line managing staff
Previous relevant experience of working in the NHS
Experience of Pathology IT systems.
Experience of Quality Management Systems
Experience of performing Risk Assessments
Good theoretical knowledge of routine analytical procedures in Immunology
Good theoretical knowledge of specialist analytical procedures in Immunology
Good verbal and written communication
Understanding of diagnostic techniques and their application to clinical diagnosis
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Integrity and personal credibility.
Self-motivated and able to motivate others.
Ability to be flexible and respond to the needs of the service,
