Setting Out Engineer
£250 - £375 per day
Freelance
Initially a 3 month contract
Based in Carlisle, Cumbria

- Work on an exciting civils and infrastructure joint venture project
- Site would consider a Junior Engineer through to experienced Site Engineer
Overview of the Setting out Engineer role
- Setting out, levelling and surveying the site; QA, temporary works checks, temporary works co – ordination
- Checking plans, drawings and setting out co – ordination
- Supporting the Site Manager and Site Team with daily operations as required
- Setting out on site using Tool Station
Your key duties as the Site Setting Out Engineer will be
- Acting as the main adviser on site for subcontractors and the JV Electrical and construction contractors
- Ensuring that all materials used, and work performed are as per specifications.
- Managing, monitoring, and interpreting the construction design drawings supplied by the structural engineer, architect & engineers
- Review design drawings for constructability in advance of the works
- Liaising with any consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, planners, quantity surveyors and the general workforce involved in the project
- Liaise with suppliers regarding technical matters as and when required
- Supervise and monitor all temporary works on site ensuring all as per design
- Liaise with Group and external consultants where necessary
- Day-to-day management of the site, including supervising and monitoring the site labour force and the work of any subcontractors
- Monitor and evaluate quality control
- Coordinating site drawings
- Inspect construction work for compliance with specs and drawings
- Ensure permits are being issued and carried out correctly
- Develop strong relationships with sub-contractors to deliver the desired outputs—on time and on budget, with high attention to quality and detail
- Maintain site records and quality assurance documentation
- Supervision of direct trade and labour, subcontractors i.e. giving the gridlines/levels to groundwork or, services and civil works
Additional duties of the Successful Site Setting Out Engineer
- Assist Senior Engineer to manage subcontractor packages from commencement to completion
- Carry out Quality Assurance checks with subcontractor to what is required/expected is delivered
- Ensure smooth flow of information between design team and subcontractors
- Report to the Senior Engineer on project safety, progress, technical decisions, changes and other significant events on site to Senior Engineer
Key must have’s you should have as the successful Setting out Engineer
- Previous experience as a Setting Out Engineer
- CSCS Card
- First Aid At Work Certificate
- You must have your own transport and be able to commute due to site location
