Visa Cash App RB Formula 1 Team is looking for an innovative and academically excellent student who share our passion for making the race car go faster to join our Vehicle Performance department in our Simulation and Modelling Team.

The role will be based in our UK Headquarters and we require availability for a 13 month placement on site from July 2024 to July 2025.

In this role you will be responsible for supporting Vehicle Performance’s simulation & modelling engineers by improving the simulation toolset and related methodologies for car performance prediction, optimization, and analysis. Further, you will contribute to the definition of a robust technical workflow for race event analysis and decision-making process, following the leadership of senior simulation & modelling engineers, and also support the daily pre/in/post-event car performance analysis and simulation work.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supporting the development and execution of simulation-based performance prediction & analysis methodologies;

  Supporting the development of methodical car data analysis workflow, focusing on aero platform positioning (i.e. car position/attitude);

  Interacting effectively with the group’s simulation and modelling engineers to help building the best toolset for simulation and live car performance analysis and decision making;

  Supporting simulation & modelling engineers in Operation room during all race events;

  Liaising with other groups on cross-department development projects;

  Supporting pre-event, in-event and post-race analysis reporting in collaboration with others simulation & modelling engineers;

  Provide ideas and suggestion to improve productivity and work efficiency;

  Improve, write, and implement methodologies and procedures for the conduction of race weekends on the topics allocated;

EXPERIENCE

Your areas of knowledge and expertise

that matter most for this role:

• Be at least 1 year into your undergraduate degree;
• You will have high problem-solving skills, with an attention to quality and details, eager to experience a highly challenging, exposed and dynamic environment, inside the Simulation & Software group;
• A strong knowledge of programming in MATLAB or Python is required, other knowledge in coding language (i.e. C#) is an advantage;
• Familiarity with data acquisition and analysis tools and methodologies would be considered an asset (ATLAS, MoTec, etc);
• Experience in data analytics techniques and software is considered beneficial (PowerBI, Tableau, …);
• Excellent communicative and collaborative skills are essential;
• Previous experience as an intern in the field of vehicle simulation or data science within a high-level motorsport environment will be preferred.
