WSP is seeking a highly skilled Cost Controller with a civil engineering background to join our team for an airport project in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 8 years of experience in cost control within the civil engineering or construction industry, with a strong understanding of project management principles and cost estimation techniques. As a Cost Controller, you will be responsible for overseeing project cost management activities, ensuring accurate budgeting, forecasting, and financial reporting to support the successful delivery of the airport project.
Your new role, what's involved?
Cost Planning and Budgeting:
- Develop comprehensive project cost plans and budgets in collaboration with project managers and stakeholders, considering all civil engineering aspects of the project.
- Conduct detailed cost estimates for civil engineering activities, including site preparation, earthworks, structural works, utilities, and infrastructure development.
Cost Monitoring and Analysis:
- Monitor project costs throughout the project lifecycle, tracking expenditures, analyzing variances against budgets, and identifying potential cost risks or deviations.
- Implement effective cost control measures to mitigate risks and optimize project financial performance, ensuring adherence to budgetary constraints.
Forecasting and Reporting:
- Prepare accurate and timely financial forecasts, cost reports, and expenditure analyses, providing regular updates to project teams and management.
- Highlight key cost drivers, trends, and potential impacts on project schedule and profitability, facilitating informed decision-making.
Change Management:
- Evaluate and assess the financial impact of project changes, including scope changes, variations, and contract amendments, on civil engineering activities.
- Collaborate with project stakeholders to document, approve, and track change orders effectively, ensuring alignment with project objectives and budget constraints.
Risk Management:
- Identify and assess financial risks and opportunities associated with civil engineering works, such as material price fluctuations, labor shortages, and unforeseen site conditions.
- Develop risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans to address potential cost impacts and ensure project delivery within established parameters.
Cost Control Systems:
- Implement and maintain robust cost control systems, tools, and procedures to streamline cost management processes and enhance data accuracy and integrity.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, procedures, and industry standards related to project cost management and reporting.
Stakeholder Communication:
- Establish and maintain effective communication channels with project stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and internal teams, to provide regular updates on project costs and financial performance.
- Build strong relationships based on trust, transparency, and accountability, fostering collaboration and alignment towards project objectives.
We'd love to hear from you if you have:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in cost control, project controls, or financial management within the civil engineering or construction industry, preferably on large-scale infrastructure projects.
- Solid understanding of civil engineering principles, practices, and construction methodologies, with a focus on cost estimation, budgeting, and financial analysis.
- Proficiency in project management software and tools for cost control, scheduling, and reporting (e.g., Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, Excel).
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to interpret complex financial data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to interact confidently with diverse stakeholders at all levels.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, prioritize tasks, and meet tight deadlines while maintaining accuracy and quality.
