Job description
Tennis has a rich history at St George’s College, with both boys’ and girls’ programmes achieving excellence on a team and individual level. In 2021, our Junior boys team won the Independent Schools League and we regularly compete and win titles at a County to National level. We have produced and supported many County, Regional and National level players. It is an incredibly exciting time to join, with our world class Activity Centre offering outstanding Strength & Conditioning facilities. We have 25 courts, including an Indoor Tennis Centre, Grass courts, Floodlit Hard Courts, Floodlit Artificial Clay courts and Floodlit Astro courts. As a consequence, we host many events including the Surrey League Tennis Finals and Festivals.
Tennis is one of the main sports during the Summer Term. The Head of Tennis will be required to plan and coach at all ability levels during the timetabled games sessions for each year group. Team practices take place after school and there is a comprehensive fixture list midweek and at weekends. Tennis is offered within Games sessions throughout the year, from Fourth Year up, alongside development, team and performance level sessions.
The successful candidate will have a proven coaching record and will work alongside the Head of Performance Tennis to deliver high quality coaching to students of all abilities. It is desirable that the post holder will have played or coached to a high standard. The successful candidate will be expected to motivate their team of staff and students and work closely with the Head of Performance Tennis and Director of Sport. It is expected that all applicants will be passionate and self-motivated yet will have the ability to work as part of a team – within the PE & Games department and the wider College community where all sports co-exist. The ability to teach an additional subject is desirable but not essential.
