Job description

We are currently seeking a new finance director to join our board and we hope to find someone who has experience offinancial management and accountancy. Our current finance director will remain on the board and will be a sourceof support for the new finance director. We would like our Board to be representative of our local community andso would welcome approaches from people who live locally or have lived experience of the issues facing ourclients. We encourage applications from all sectors of the community and you do not need to have boardexperience to apply, we will support you with tailored training based on your level of experience.

Role and responsibilities

As well as bearing all the fiduciary duty of a board officer, the finance director is the person specificallyentrusted with management of the bureau funds. They will deal with much of the day-to-day financial business andwill play a key role in planning a clear fundraising strategy. The finance director is also responsible forensuring that accurate records are maintained and the board is informed of all relevant financial matters.

Roxburgh & Berwickshire CAB are based in theScottish Borders. The current Board members are a dynamic group with many different skill sets. There is a placefor someone with financial experience, who could help with annual budgeting, financial reports to the Board andpreparation of end of year accounts. The Citizens Advice network in Scotland is the largest independent advice service in the country. Citizens AdviceScotland is a charity within this network – we act as a national organisation supporting and representing theservice as a whole and the interests of citizens. At the heart of the network there are 59 individual citizensadvice bureau across Scotland, all operating as independent charities in their own right, which focus onproviding support and advice directly to clients. Each of these organisations is a member of Citizens AdviceScotland. We believe that every citizen should have access to free, impartial and confidential advice that helpsthem make informed decisions, whenever they need it and however, they choose to access it.

Citizens Advice Scotland runs a series of national specialist services as projects which require centralised projectsupport. You will work as an integral part of the national projects team, with your primary role being theaccount management of relationships between our project teams and senior management of advice bureau across thecountry through proactive engagement, communication, planning and reporting with participating memberorganisations of Citizens Advice Scotland and other key stakeholders .

As the Project Engagement Officer, you will ensure regular collaborative communication with both external andinternal stakeholders on matters relating to service delivery and reporting, service development and changes,new projects and related implementation,. You will foster a member-focused culture, and support colleagues tocommunicate and engage members effectively on related matters.

As the Lead Project Officer, you will use your excellent project management skills to support the day-to-day projectmanagement of the organisation’s key national specialist services. The role will initially support the PensionWise project, the UK government sponsored scheme that helps people aged 50 and above with their pensionoptions.

You will be working alongside the project lead and take responsibility to identify and progress service improvementinitiatives as they arise, respond to service complaints and queries, and assist with ongoing developments incoordination with the project’s funder. You will lead on continuity of project reporting and operationaleffectiveness and you will be talking daily to different stakeholders about a wide range of issues so theability to work flexibly and effective communication is key.

An experienced adviser is required for a new project to improve the financial circumstances of the families supportedby Midlothian’s Family Wellbeing Service and improve the outcomes for the children.

The project will work with, and receive referrals from, the Family Wellbeing Service team members. The worker willlink with other agencies and work closely with Penicuik CAB’s other family income maximisation advisers andspecialist debt worker to develop a wraparound service to increase household income and improve quality of lifefor the family.

The project worker, in partnership with the GIRFEC and Hawthorn Income Maximisation Workers will provide awarenessraising sessions with the Family Wellbeing team members and any other agencies, as appropriate.

Based at the Penicuik CAB and working at any centres deemed appropriate, the worker will provide help and assistancewith checking benefit entitlement, completing benefit applications and challenging benefit decisions. The workwill also include income maximisation, budgeting advice and some assistance with debt issues (including housingdebt).

A working knowledge and understanding of welfare benefits and good interpersonal skills are essential. The postholder will be responsible for developing and delivering the service to meet the needs of the families.
