The Wheat Transformation Facility offers world class transformation and gene editing services in a wide range of wheat varieties (including elite varieties) for academic researchers. The wheat transformation and gene editing team is a very new, diverse and dynamic team involved in collaborations on many different projects, with both internal groups and external institutes and universities. The team’s interest is innovations in transformation and gene editing technologies to meet specific research goals in wheat. This includes work to further extend the efficiency of wheat transformation and the range of amenable genotypes; as well as to develop advanced gene editing technologies adapted for use in wheat.
Working as part of a team led by Dr Sadiye Hayta, you will support the wheat transformation team in carrying out all stages of the wheat transformation process, from explant isolation and Agrobacterium-mediated transformation through to selection of transgenic plants and their care in glasshouses or controlled environment rooms. The team is dynamic, so the successful applicant will be supporting construct preparation, all stages of sterile plant production and their care in glasshouses or controlled environment rooms.
In this role, you will have the opportunity to develop your skills in the latest highly efficient wheat transformation methodologies, CRISPR/Cas9 mediated gene editing, and learn new molecular skills. You will also work with world leading scientists who are experts in their field.
You will have a BSc or equivalent experience in a related scientific field. The ideal candidate will have excellent manual skills and will be comfortable working through periods of repetitive tasks, while maintaining efficiency, precision, and attention to detail.
