Job description
Robert Half is exclusively partnered with Biogen (UK) Ltd an award-winning waste recycling services business in their pursuit of a new Commercial Sales Director.
As Commercial Director you will work in conjunction with senior management to provide strong input and leadership into the development of Biogen's strategy and direction to maximise shareholder value. To develop the strategic and annual food waste procurement plans for the Board that reflect the stakeholders' objectives and priorities and to maximise short- and long-term revenues associated with food waste procurement. You will also be required to ensure that processes and procedures are implemented in line with Biogen values and external best practices and to further provide input to the business in, operational and financial matters to enhance decision making and commercial outcomes.
To be successful you will be able to demonstrate a broad level of operational knowledge to enable the critical review, challenge key decisions, and assist in that process by providing accurate and timely Management Information
Accountability's
- To develop, implement and regularly review a 3 - 5-year strategic commercial food waste procurement plan which is capable of adapting to market forces.
- To develop, implement and regularly review the in-year strategic food waste procurement plan, including forecasting, budget setting and target distribution to deliver the overall business goals.
- To work closely and regularly report and communicate with the co-directors on the performance of the Commercial function.
- To alert the board on barriers to growth and issues facing the business in its attempts to reach its overall goals.
- To develop, implement and deliver a CRM strategy appropriate for Biogen and the industry.
- To display leadership qualities across the BIOGEN business by supporting senior managers and their teams to deliver excellent business performance and customer service maintaining Biogen values.
Sales and Customer Service
- To optimise revenues from food waste gate fees into all of Biogen's plants within the constraints of funding requirements and operational limitations of the plants.
- To report via written monthly executive summary the development of food waste procurement against the operational and strategic plans.
- To develop high level relationships with the top C&I customers, Public Service Providers waste management companies and where appropriate Local Authorities to ensure strong commercial relationships.
- Lead negotiations with C&I food waste clients, Public Service Providers, and waste management companies to optimise revenues and ensure attractive contract terms to maximise shareholder value.
- To effectively deliver strong customer service and support for ALL food waste customers to maintain strong trading relationships.
- Manage and develop Biogen's network of transfer stations.
- Development of external relationships to extend the potential for the growth of BIOGEN, attending relevant external events and networking.
- To develop PPAs (energy) with large institutional/corporate customers to enhance revenue visibility and certainty as appropriate.
Financial and Organisational
- To assist in the development, implementation and maintain robust annual operating processes and financial forecast budgets that will deliver the strategic plan.
- Develop, manage, update, and monitor performance against the commercial sales plan by the Commercial Team.
Risk Management
- To be alert and respond to the external factors that may affect the performance of the business.
- To support the implementation, monitor and manage the Company's systems and processes required to mitigate risks.
- To ensure that accurate customer records are implemented, maintained regularly, and safeguarded.
Key Skills and Knowledge
- Excellent levels of commercial sales experience.
- Experienced contract negotiator, including tendering and procurement.
- Excellent business decision maker with well-developed commercial, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong people manager, able to motivate, coach and develop team.
- Experience managing investor relationships/reporting to the parent company.
- Ability to focus on the strategic priorities of the business, balancing excellence with delivering profit.
- Ability to translate business objectives into detailed operational plans and relate to economic and market forces.
- Ability to interpret and use financial, statistical and market information.
