Job description

We're looking for up to three trustees!

This is an influential role which will shape our future development as Hope at Home continues to provide safe homes for survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking.

What will you be doing?

We are particularly looking for motivated, committed people with experience of:

Hope at Home usually has four full board meetings a year which take place in person on a Saturday and require a whole day. Ahead of the meetings trustees will be expected to prepare and to complete any tasks or actions assigned. Trustees also sit on sub-committees that help to guide the development, management, finance and safety of Hope at Home, all of which meet online.

Reasonable travel expenses/costs will be covered for attending Hope at Home board-related meetings and for any agreed development training.

We want people who care about our sector, understand and commit to our role in supporting it and can work with a small leadership team to deliver our objectives. We are seeking to improve the skill set and competencies and the visible diversity of the board to ensure we more accurately reflect the people that we serve.

This is a great opportunity for an individual who is passionate about tackling modern slavery and human trafficking. Ideal candidates will have some of the following experience and attributes:

Essential

A commitment to Hope at Home’s vision, mission,values and ethos.

Personal qualities of integrity, reliability and a commitment to acting in solidarity with people who have experienced modern slavery or human trafficking.

A questioning mind with the confidence and ability to digest reports, papers, and accounts, and ask perceptive questions in a supportive and constructive manner. We are happy to present information and papers in different, accessible formats based on trustee feedback.

A collaborative and collegial working attitude that is comfortable with being challenged and that actively supports colleagues to do their best work.

A commitment to working within an anti-racist organisation and to supporting Hope at Home in tackling racism and prejudice of all forms.

Desirable

Experience of providing or facilitating accommodation, hosting, or other modes of support to people who have experienced vulnerabilities.

Lived experience of modern slavery, human trafficking , immigration control and /or homelessness.

Working knowledge of immigration  / housing law / marketing / safeguarding best practice.

Experience as a charity board member with an understanding of, and commitment to, ensuring good governance, best practice, and sound financial oversight.

Hope at Home is a young, ambitious charity developing innovative ways to offer safe homes for survivors of modern slavery and human trafficking, preventing re-trafficking and allowing survivors the opportunity to rebuild their lives.

As part of our board, you will support and shape our work and strategic direction, as well as help us achieve our vision of offering safe homes to survivors of slavery.  You will have a real opportunity to offer your unique skill set to help the strategic progression of the charity.
