Job description
Azure Fiber is looking for a committed and reliable Optical Engineer to join our team. The role involves designing, implementing, and supporting test automation for fibers and glass components, with a focus on product characterization. You will work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, and R&D teams to support the development and production of hollowcore fiber and cable solutions. You will also maintain a pipeline of data to drive improvements in both product and manufacturing processes. As such, this role involves hands-on work in our state of the art Romsey facility.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND technical engineering experience or internship experience
- OR Master's degree in Optical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements:
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Proficient in programming and hardware automation.
- Proficient in Python, including Pandas, Flask, Django, Scikit-learn, NumPy, and SciPy.
- Experience in working with Azure Services.
- Curious, eager to learn, adaptable, and flexible.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate ideas, issues, and proposals to all relevant stakeholders across the organization.
- Resilient and willing to take on challenges with perseverance.
- Detail-oriented.
Responsibilities
- Assists in developing data pipelines for test automation and product characterization.
- Assists in developing automated testing solutions and independently conducts automated testing on standard feature areas or products.
- Participates in the development of dashboards or reports for testing and quality metrics.
- Follows a single project implementation schedule to deliver the hardware engineering aspects of a well-defined feature or product. Escalates issues to management as necessary.
- Researches new tools, technologies, methods for project implementation. Provides recommendations to project team members as to which tool is appropriate.
- Uses data and statistical analyses to make recommendations to optimize existing processes that can be used by own team.
- Ensures that test requirements are included in documentation and specifications for a feature or product.
