We are seeking a visionary and accomplished Head of Formulation to lead the Formulation function and drive the development of groundbreaking skincare products. This is a 9 month fixed term contract opportunity to cover parental leave.
This role will report into the Chief Product Officer and will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our product portfolio and ensuring that Medik8 continues to deliver exceptional skincare solutions to our customers. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a creative approach to complex problems.
You will have 1 direct report, a team of 5 formulation scientists and a key leader in a wider R&D team of 18 will be based at our Innovation Centre in Aylesbury, where we have a state-of-the-art skincare suited laboratory and modern manufacturing rooms.
The role in more detail:
- Oversee and inspire the Formulation team to develop world-class skincare products that align with the brand’s vision, business goals and target consumer needs.
- Lead and contribute to high-tech skincare ideation, emphasising the use of high-grade, best-in-class ingredients and cutting-edge science.
- Stay at the forefront of skincare science and industry insights, identifying opportunities for innovation and differentiation.
- Act as the skincare formulation expert, providing technical support to internal and external stakeholders.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, cost optimisation, innovation, and knowledge sharing within the formulation team.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Brand, Supply Chain, Manufacturing and Quality, to bring new products to market.
- Cultivate relationships with external partners, including research institutions, suppliers, and universities, to access new technologies and ideas.
- Ensure all skincare products meet regulatory and safety standards, collaborating with regulatory affairs professionals.
Requirements:
- A master’s/PHD in chemistry or cosmetic science.
- 8+ years of experience in skincare formulation, with a track record of developing innovative products.
- Advanced expertise in analytical chemistry.
- In-depth knowledge of cosmetic chemistry, raw materials, and formulation techniques and technologies.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Strong business acumen and commerciality.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate with stakeholders at all levels.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Advanced expertise in sunscreen formulation, vitamin C and vitamin A is an advantage.
