Job description
This is ex-offender rehabilitation at another level. This won’t feel like any place you have worked in before. Think big open space. Plants. A snug area. Private meeting rooms. Open plan kitchen where you and the clients help themselves to coffee. Below is a quote from an article on this project:
Right at the back of the office, a client in his 30s was showing his Support Worker pictures on his phone. He had just got his benefits through and had been food shopping, he needed to make it last, so had been food shopping and was proudly showing his SW what he had cooked the night before, asking “what could I add to this to bulk it out so I could make it last a bit longer”, the SW told him his dinner looked great and suggested cheaper staples like rice and lentils. The P said he’d not thought of that, he wanted to make something that realistically lasts three days and keep him full.
Your caseload will be around 40, and typical things you will support your clients with include:
You will need to be driven to make a difference to peoples lives. So each month you will aim to achieve a set number of the above outcomes. You will have a demonstratable interest in criminal justice. So you might have recently finished your criminology degree and are looking for your first career move. Or you might have worked within criminal justice as a prison officer, probation officer, resettlement worker, substance misuse officer and feel like you want to work in a different type of project that makes a real difference.
Please apply via this advert – everyone gets a response (even if you receive an email to say we don’t feel your CV is the right fit, the email explains how you can easily get extra feedback on this). Please call the office and ask for James if you would like to talk to someone before applying for the role (number on the Red 5 People website).
The project is based in the centre of town on Cowgate.
