Cardinal Heenan Catholic High School is a vibrant, thriving and leading school in the local area. (1345 on roll with a Sixth Form of 185) and our long history and excellent community links provide our students with exceptional opportunities.

Teachers support pupils to become highly articulate young people who can express their views well on a wide range of issues.”Furthermore, “Pupils benefit from studying a wide range of subjects. Leaders have put in place an ambitious curriculum. We are seeking to appoint an innovative, enthusiastic and ambitious Teacher of Science. We require someone who is passionate about science and teaching. Our success as a school is known to be rapidly improving and in particular our science department is a proud asset of our strong and cohesive school community.

Over recent years, our energetic science team have nurtured our students into highly studious and enthusiastic scientists. We have very large uptake for GCSE Separate Sciences and even more so in our A-level and BTEC Science programmes. We have a reputation for success in the local area and, for several years now, have proudly achieved and maintained positive value added scores and positive progress 8 figures at both KS4 and 5.

As well as our excellent academic performance in external examinations, we are also immensely proud of the destinations that our students go on to post-KS5. Examples of just some of the courses many of our most recent students have gone onto study are:

As well as offering a comprehensive curriculum of GCSE’s and A-levels in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, we also offer BTEC Applied General Science and BTEC Applied Human Biology. We also offer a full programme of extra-curricular support including peer-peer tuition, outreach work with various universities, scholar’s programmes with Imperial College London and The Brilliant Club and much more. These all contribute to our development of the well-rounded and academically successful scientists that we produce and who proudly graduate from our sixth form college each year.

The successful candidate will teach predominantly KS3 and KS4 where we aim to teach within our specialism.  There may also be the opportunity to teach a science at KS5. Our team works collaboratively in the planning and development of our curriculum which means that the successful candidate will work in a team sharing ideas and planning an area of the curriculum. This has been really powerful in reducing our workload within the department.

This role is full-time and with an initial 12-month contract. There will be a performance review after the initial 12 months with the view of offering a full-time permanent contract.
