Position Description

Position Summary

System administration, analysis, and automation for a variety of servers in a hybrid VMware and cloud environment. Support software and hardware applications present in the environment. Assist with identity management, network services, and data security.

Education Required

Bachelor’s Degree in IT field or equivalent technical training.

Education Preferred

Experience Required

• Experience with linux servers; primarily RHEL derivatives
• Experience with scripting languages such as PHP , bash, Powershell, etc.or other programming experience.

Experience Preferred

• Experience in supporting complex environments including Linux, Windows, Active Directory.
• Experience with VMware and/or cloud environments.
• Experience with automation using scripts and other tools.

Skills, Characteristics Required for Position

• Technical knowledge of Linux, scripting, Apache, and PHP along with ability to work with Tomcat and Powershell.
• Familiar with identity protocols such as LDAP , CAS , SAML and network protocols such as TCP /IP, DHCP , DNS , SMTP , RADIUS , SNMP
• Desire to expand knowledge and skills by evaluating and testing new services and technology, online training, and occassional conferences
• Ability to manage projects, be organized, and pay attention to detail
• Good problem-solving and technical troubleshooting skills
• Ability to interact and relate well with employees, students, vendors, and guests.

Special Working Conditions

Respond to off-hour issues related to servers, storage, and networking.

Primary Duties

• Systems Admin primarily for Linux servers while assisting with Windows servers as well as specialized software on these systems.
• Assist IT Security with critical needs such as server logging, server remediation, vulnerability reviews, etc.
• Assist with administration of VMware and cloud environments
• Scripting to automate tasks, data exchange, and cloud automation along with some web applications
• Manage or assist with various application systems and services as assigned
• Assist with maintaining documentation for systems and procedures
• Assist with data protection procedures including backup, restore, and replication

Secondary Duties

• Respond to off-hours emergencies.
• Advise and assist Tech Support with advanced technical issues
• Other duties as assigned
